Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > Heli Maneuvers for the AMA Waiver

I have been flying helis for about 30 years now and am one of the self taught folks. That just means that I spent a lot of money to learn to fly these things. I learned in the days of no gyros or computer radios.

The loop, roll. auto requirements, although interesting, probably are not necessary to prove competence in the operation of turbine helicopters. If you can fly it around in a controlled manner and handle a flame out, you should be good to go. Yea, I fly my turbine upside down. sideways, etc, but that is lot of money to risk if you are not comfortable with those type of proceedures.

Maybe they should rethink these requirements. Just a thought.

Prolodoc the required manuvers are to be performed on a 60/90 glow heli and not a turbine heli. and i do feel that the aerobatic manuvers are a beter indication of the pilots ability's.

Maneuvers

Well, I guess that I should have read further. I did them with the turbine as I sold my gas helis except for the 30 caliber and scale 60 jet ranger that I dont even want to think about inverting.

I still think that steep stall turns and autos are sufficient., but that is just a thought from an old pilot.

Recommended...

Not Required....it is kind of up the the Turbine CD signing off on you...

If you are safe pilot...not much else matters.

1. A safe pilot does not fly over or near people....
2. A safe pilot does not try manuevers with a turbine that he/she has not worked out on a smaller machine first.

If you can loop or roll is a mute point if you never do it with the turbine.

This is why many scalers take offense to the aerobatic part of the recommendation...and why they are only recommendations.

If you are a d!ck head...you can kill someone with a raptor 30...if you are safe...chances are not.
