I finally picked up my Body from Vario yesterday.
That tape next to it is 72 inches long.
This is my first scale attempt, so I am open to sugestions etc.
Not to keen on an Army colour scheme, maybe bright yellow, to be completely different!!!

jet exhaust?

Will it go out the scale port..or do you have to route it out differently?

The exhaust comes out at the rear, just behind the main shaft.
If you look at the photo you will see the Turbine exhaust is in place.

you have the exhaust deflected up. do you think there is a problem that the blades will get a little warm?? what is the exhaust temp????

Turbines exhaust between 500-700 degrees I have been told. I have always thought the same thing about the blades but so long as you use FG or Carbon I guess it isn't an issue since they are spinning at such a high rate that they cool at the same time. Just balance them so that you can add a hotdog to each of them so you can at least get a good day of flying and eating

hmmm wonder what a hotdog would do at 1700rpm

The exhaust shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't leave the blades over it on startup. Once spinning they'll be fine.

The same thing is done to the real Cobra's and on Bell Rangers, Hueys.

They should be just fine, I fly NH-90's all the time and as long as you avoid start-up, there is no problem. The sound is SO much better this way.I have a bk-117 with a simlar system but it doesnt pass through the blades and thus the sound is only so-so. They will eventually brown up a little bit on the bottom side, but this is not a concern.
The quality of that Cobra kit looks very good.
Have a blast with it!

exhaust temp

BigD the exhaust temp you have stated is in Celsius when converted to Fahrenheit he will have an exhaust temp of around 1000 degrees. It looks like he will have a clearance of round 6 to 8 inches from the exhaust stack. his blades should be fine at that distance while moving.

I would guess that his blades will get on the warm side and if they start to turn colors like sandy states then I would suggest that he replace them each flying season, vario blades have a foam core and if the gel coat is starting to show the effects from the heat then the foam core might begin to breakdown over time and weaken the blades.

our graupner blades are carbon inner core, no foam. its just soot that collects underside of the blades. As long as you dont see "print through" they are fine.I have countless flights on the same set of blades and the factory prototype just ticked off its 300th flight with the same rotor equipment, the vario cobra being factory designed should work just fine.

allright then, you are ready to go. the reason i brought this up is a) the exhaust temp is around 1000 degrees. b) people say "cover your blades, or dont leave them in the sunlight because i guess the heat will make them start to seperate brown on the blades would look really cool and scale like!

Graupner Blades

Sandy are you saying that Graupner blades are solid carbon fiber like Bolly carbon propellers, or are they hollow? I don't believe that they are hollow as I have owned a pair and they are not heavy enough to be solid carbon fiber. I believe they are either balsa or foam core blades.

look at a pair of broken blades or cut a blade and let us know.

i can tell you for sure they are carbon inside both skins and hollow. I walked into a set on spool down on a pod and boom cuz I wasnt used to the size...way back when, broke/split one over my shin...after an hour or so, I got up and looked at them... dang! carbon and hollow! They can take some abuse but I would change a set every flying season just to be safe in my own personal tastes.

Turbine Cobra

Hey

Just bought one myself. I keep looking at the Vario DVD of this machine. It was in Model Helicopter world.

Well it has not fallen out of the sky yet from melted blades.

I guess all ok.

What are you guys worried about?

Vario has figured it out.
