Im upgrading to the li-pol and now looking for a charger to accomidate my assortment of batteries that I still use on my other R/C aircrafts. Everyone raves about the Triton but what about the Hobbico Quick Field MKII. Thanks in advance for your knowledge.

Triton Charger $129.99
- Input Voltage: 10-15V DC,
- Battery Types, # of cells: 1-24 Nickel-Cadmium cells (1.2-28.0V NiCd), 1-24 Nickel-Metal Hydride cells (1.2-28.0V NiMH), 1-4 Lithium-Ion or Lithium-Polymer cells (3.6-14.8V Li-Ion/Li-Po), 3, 6, 12 Lead-Acid cells (6, 12, 24V Pb)
- Fast Charge Current: 0.1-5.0A linear (2.5A max. for Li-Ion/Li-Po)

Hobbico Quick Field MKII $49.99
- Input voltage: 10-15V DC,
- Battery types (each port): nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), lithium-ion (Li-Ion), lithium polymer (Li-Po), Number cells (each port): 1-8 NiCd or NiMH, 1-3 Li-Ion or Li-Po,
- Fast charge current (each port): 0.2A - 2.0A linear (1A max. Li-Ion / Li-Po)

Triton Issues

Although I have had nothing but top notch luck with mine, there have been a few issues regarding the Triton charger. Do a search in RunRyder for Triton and you will see what I mean.

My only con regarding this unit is that they are very (IMHO overly) cautious with the LiPo charge program. Limiting it to 4 cells and 2.5 amps is beginning to be a big issue now that I am using 5S4P packs rated at 8 amps.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but one of the guys at the field just picked up the Astro Flight Lipo only charger. It will autodetect the number of cells and charge appropiately up to 8 Amps. Having seen what happens when the wrong selection is inputed into a different brand charger ($7000 for new pickup cab interior by our now club poster child) he decided that the Lipo only would be Murphy proof. I guess it comes down to how big a battery you plan on charging as well as different types.

Consider the number of cells you need to charge. My understanding is that the Triton can charge up to four lipo cells. If you plan on charging more than four cells you'll need a charger than can handle more cells.

The Schulze is a top quality charger that can do up to 11 or 13 (depending on the model) lipo cells. Give the Schulze a serious look.

Things to consider when slecting any charger:

1) Supported battery chemistry types (Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Li-Po, etc.)
2) Max charge current. Some chargers can charge up to 8A or more. The higher the charge current the faster your batteries will charge.
3) Number of ports. Some chargers can charge more than one pack at a time.
4) Required power supply. Most chargers require 12-14v DC. A charger doing 36 Ni-Cd cells at 8A may require a 25A (or greater) power supply. For that you can expect to spend $75-200+ just for a power supply.

Of course, the day before my Schulze isl 6-636+RS arrives I found out about this new charger. Based on the specs it certainly looks like it can rival the isl 8-936. Plus, it's made in the good ol' USA!
