At walmart ?...also Can I use just any spray paint as long as I spray a couple good coats of fuel proof clear over it? I want to try to paint my raptor canopy and I know that it be all detailed but I don't care because then I want feel too bad when it smacks the ground one day...I just want it sorta painted and it not to be screwed up by the fuel.....

I sure had a bad experience with Rustoleum clear. It turned to snot and grabbed onto every little bit of dirt and dust out of the air - except in the places where it just plain dissolved away. That was ugly!

Far as I can tell, fuel proof clear coats do not come in spray cans - you have to use automotive paint. I'd really like for someone to tell me I'm wrong, though!

I use Dupont Nason Automotive Clearcoat available thru Automotive paint stores. Never had a problem with 30% fuel soaking on it..

I painted a Rappy canopy with PlastiKote - it is a bumper paint found at Pep Boys automotive stores. Wash the canopy with hot soapy water, sand with 400 then 600, use the adhesive accelerator (plastikote also) then three coats of color, then three coats of clear. It is about $7.00 per can. I used the Hi-visibility orange and yellow.

Fuel Proof Paint

I understand Dupla color from AutoZone is an acrylic laquer that holds up very well -- also Plastacote is a polyurathane paint that is Fuel Proof but, difficult to recoat without peeling! Another source is Tower Hobbies -- they have a complete line of Spray Paints that are Fuel Proof (Black Baron is one of them) Hope this helps!

Testors makes a fuelproof gloss lacquer that is available in cans. I have used it before on 1/2A control line stuff with high nitro, and the lacquer lasted longer than the planes

I would forget using Plasticoat at the present time if you want something that will be fuel proof. I used Plasticoat two years ago when I painted some personal canopies and it worked very well. However I just finished two canopies for my brother in law and when I tested the Plasticoat it did not hold up to the fuel. I am unsure why there is a discrepancy between what I used two years ago and today but I ended up using a PPG two part clear to optain a fuel proof finish.

How about...

LusterCoat Crystal Clear in the can? I've used it on a Raptor fiberglass aftermarket and a stock canopy and ddn't have any problems. BTW_ I was shooting the clear over Parma FastColor waterbased paint which the RC Cars use alot on the Lexan bodies. Works great!
