e-Minicopter Joker > Joker on lithium like Alan!

Hi All,

I have had my Joker now for almost a year and I simply love it. It is a great machine. I am flying a 24-4 motor, 24 teeth pinion and 30 cells of UM3000 (twguns built the packs for me, he does a great job). At a head speed of 1700 it gives 5.5 minutes of good 3-D.

It has been rock solid for many flights. I am now addicted and simply want more flight time. I was amazed at the video of Alan's flight and want to replicate his setup. Does anyone know what motor/pinion/battery/headspeed combo he used for that flight?

Also would be curious about his temperatures at the end of the flight for the motor/battery/esc.

Also any further updates on the S-Bec...I started with a U-bec that simply caused my esc to shutdown. I then got a filter/choke from the guys that make it and it seemed to solve the problems. It still makes me a little nervous so I stopped using it after another guy who flies airplanes and is very respected with electric drivetrains said that he couldn't get the Ubec to work with Futaba digital servos and the actronic drivetrain. That there was some small ripple that caused all kinds of problems, and it was a matter of time before a random esc shutdown would occur. I like the idea of not having any RX batteries but want some more real world experience with the S-Bec before I try it.

Thanks for any info,
Best....John

i'm not sure which video you're talking about, but most people have been running 10S4P thunder power packs in the jokers with great success.

there is a guy on ezone (misskimo) who is successfully using the SBEC on his joker with lithiums and actronic ESC.

I've had my Joker for a while now (I ordered it directly from Germany prior to them having any US dealers), For a long time now I've had it in a 500D fusealge which I've just rebuilt after a crash. I got some LiPo's (TP 7800 which I have 2 3s4p and 1 4s4p giving the equivalent of a 10s4p). I just flew it first time with the LiPos yesterday. I just gotta say: Wow! I stopped flying it after 15 minutes but it had absolutely great power the whole time. The batteries took about 5000 mAhs charge so I had 2800 left in them.

I'm using the 24-5 motor on a 24T pinion. UBEC. After flying ( I was just hovering the entire time), the batteries were warm but not hot. I might also add that the 500D/Joker is NOT a light bird: Probably weighs a min full up weight at least 15 lbs. However, the lifting power was still very strong. I actually had to flatten my pitch curve around a hover because it was just leaping off the ground!

Prior to the Lipos I have BattlePacks that are CP3600 NiCd ( "C" sized). I used 30 cells and maybe maxed out at around 8 minutes (I also was using a 23T pinion at the time, but that's too anemic for the weight). Those CP3600's add about another 1 lb though...

All in all, I'm very impressed with the LiPos...
