e-Electric Conversions > Converting a Sceadu 30 To Electric

Hi Guys,
Just about to start the rebuild of my broken sceadu 30 and was thinking how hard it would be to convert it to electric? I've seen the e-rappy and thought how cool it would be to have an electric heli. Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking brushless motor (hacker 50 series) - phoenix controller, standard futaba 9 channel receiver, lith-polies, gy401. Would need to get the push pull system off the evo as the standard 30 size linkage system probably wouldn't hack the size of the motor I'm think of.

Any tips would be great. What sort of mount is needed to support the motor?

Cheers

the hackers mount from the front, so you'll need a mounting plate with holes for the screws that go into the front of the motor, and a hole for the motor shaft to come through. if you have access to a mill, it should be easy to make. i'm not familiar with the sceadu, so i don't know if there's a convenient place to put a motor mounting plate so that the pinion can contact the main gear.

be aware that the hacker motors like higher gear ratios, like 11 or 12 to one. the raptor conversion kits include bigger main gears to get the gear ratio up. another option is to use an outrunner motor, like an actro. these types of motors have more torque, and are usually happy with the lower gear ratios that glow helis tend to have. actro motors mount from the back, so if it would be easier for you to put a mounting plate lower down in the frames, then this might be an advantage as well.

good luck with the project. it's a great time to be converting to electric. the technology has really progressed lately.

On the Sceadu, the standard system will hold up as the Sceadu 30 is the same as the 50, and it holds up fine even to OS .50's with MP.

As for where to mount the motor, it would require an interesting mount setup if using a Hacker. I'd actually rather mount the previously mentioned Actro as you could make a mount that could use the existing lower engine mount.

The Sceadu might be a little heavy, as it started as a .50 size ship that they made a 30. The Raptor's are good because they started as a 30, and went to a 50, so they are inherently a little lighter.

Some food for thought, good luck w/ your conversion, and post your results here.
