Has anyone used a YS 80 with the 24 tooth clutch bell? Did you have to go to the 390mm belt or did the stock belt work? Are there any working examples with this engine at 8.52:1.

You may want to talk with Scooter on the Yahoo Robbe page as he is using the 24 T bell on his Futuras with the YS 80.

Hey Millibee,
I also would like to know this I am thinking seriously of putting a 80 or 90 in my Nova too.

If you use the stock belt you will have to shave a few MM off the motor mount (not a big deal at all)and if you go to the 390 belt you will have to add shims. its opposite on the futura.

let us know how is works out for you. I'd like to know for my own info.

Question for you Millibee? How come you chose the ys 80? why not the os90?

Mckoi, did you notice the comments that were made on my mpeg about the power of my 61? I think that a 91 is over kill at this point especially when most user's are only running 15% nitro. I feel very comfortable with 30% and the YS because it's a very smooth team. My setup needs a smooth power delivery. I see that alot people like to use goveners which are simple to use but the system lags behind just a little bit such that I can notice it . I prefer to program the radio to keep the head speed as constant as I can get it. Programing in my view allows me to lead my power needs so when compared to a 91,15% nitro and a govener I think I'll be on equal footing.

The last reason I'm going with the 80 is because I have become dependent on the midrange needle I don't see how I can do without it. I'm also surprised that OS didn't offer a carb with 3 needles.

I have an SE with the 24 tooth bell and the YS 80. Awsome combo! I do run the GV-1 on mine...no matter what you do the M/R stays at 1750 +/- 10 RPM on a M/A Skytach. The engine didn't take as long to break in as the .61's did; 4 gallons of Powermaster 30 and the engine was ready ot lean out and run! I shimmed the engine off the mount about 3mm and used the factory 375mm belt, it runs great! I tried the 23 tooth bell and the engine didn't seem able to "pull" as hard as with the 24T bell. The 23T bell is now on my YS 61 SE...with a 80/90 muffler I'm not sure if I need to buy another .80.... Chris

Maxx how do you like the preformnce on the YS61 with the 23 tooth bell. I have tought about this myself since I run the xl at 9 to 1 and it does seem to like it better. I didn't think 8.8 would be much worse.
Thanks for the info.

The YS61 with the 23T bell is great! With the Hatori 80 muffler and Powermaster 30% the engine is much quieter and pulls like mad...the exhaust note is different...thank God for the GV-1! I'm having a Devil of a time with the .80, it SOUNDS slow engine -wise; the M/R is going at 1800RPM... and Still I keep thinking the engine needs to turn higher,...Chris

So does it pull harder with the 24 or the 23?(80)

And you are running the 61 with a 80 muffler and 23 and getting more power?

Andy, the .80 likes the 24 tooth bell better IMO. It goes up like an Estes Rocket and even with the engine rich it doesn't bog in tumbles etc. As for the .61; yea man, it has more power with the Hatori .80 muffler and though I don't know for sure if the 23 tooth bell is responsible, the .61 doesn't bog in funnels like it used to...anyway; the .61 with the 23T bell and the .80 muffler sure sounds different; it's WAY quieter! I like it!!! Chris

Sounds like a 24 is in the future for me. It makes more the with the 23?
That is hard to believe hehehe. I knew the 61 likes 9. to 1 better from my xcell. there was a big difference.

So how long did you run a 23 and then 24?
