Well, I have been an avid glow flier for the past two years and just wasn't interested in the electric powered machines. A friend of mine has been flying his Joker for a year now, so I finally broke down and got one. So far I love this thing. Plenty of power and mine is flipping and rolling as fast, if not faster, than my Fury extreme. I'm running the 24-4 with 24t pinion, MAH 690 mains, and the Thunder Power 10s4p lipo's and its just awsome! Here's a pic of the machine.

Another pic

Here's one more pic of the machine. I'm also running the 90mm Vpaddles along with the long flybar. I think this has contributed to the agility of this helicopter.

Eric,

I was curious what kind of running time are you getting on the lipo packs...

Also what temp is the controller , motor, batteries after a flight???

Thanks

Only one flight on the pack so far so not too much data for you. I did 6 min flights the first time with 15 min. breaks as the instructions suggested. After six minutes the battery was around 103, motor was 128, and the controler was 68. The first charge resulted in 14 minutes of total flight time. I'll get another flight on it tonight and do 10 min. with a short break and let you know times and temps. I'm curious to see how these batteries will perform once I've got some time on them. With my Idle up 2 I was getting around 1820 to 1850 headspeed. Used a Min. Air tach to check it. That was at 100%. How are your batteries working for you Larry? Let me know what you've come up with so far. Thanks.

Regards,
Eric K.

Canopy

Got this one from Joe with the kit. He's trying to get us some more so we can do some painting on them. Joker is a great machine it just needs some flair on the canopy.

Fun Fly

Mike/Eric,
Dave flew his Joker Sunday on LiPo's . . .WOW! He's changing to a 22 tooth pinion w/Lipo's for the week end. My LiPo's need some terminals soldered . . .

Mike S, Didn't know you had a Joker . . .so let's see now,
Dave O. has 3, Dario B. has 3, Frank F. has 1 (wants 1 more), Eric K. has 1, Pat S. has 1, Gary T. (has one for sale) 1, Michel S. has 1, Mike V. needs 1!

Could be a MAJOR Joker showdown . . .or is that ho'down or up?

Friday night we'll still have the catered dinner, please come anyhow we'll start early Saturday . . .the Hotel's cheap. See the FunFly thread for directions and Hotel phone number.

Hey Big Ragu...

What was the combo used on the lipos and what was the rpms??? I assume the rpms were a little high causing dave to go to the 22 pinion???

I am running the 24-5 with 25 tooth on 10s4p lipos...Machine flys great but rpms are a little low for me..

I will be setting up a second machine using the 24-4 and want to hear the rpms people are getting on the 23 and 22 tooth on lipos...

My head speed on Lipos was 1940
Which is not bad but I was thinking if I want down a tooth I would hit 1880 to 1850 and gain a little more flight time and not load the blade as much. I am planning on trying it tonight
This was at 75% throttle

I am very intrested with the combo you are running
By looking at the numbers I though the 24-5 with 25 pinnion would be a very good combo but it is intresting that you don't like it
What was the rpms that you had on that combo?

David,

What was your rpms as the pack discharged ??? was it still into the 1800-1900 range towards the end of the second flight with the voltage coming down on the pack??

My rpms are around 1500-1600 and it holds consistent through out the packs charge.

THe machine flys beatiful but i would like an additional 100-200 rpms for higher speed. It is just what i am used to ..i would like to shoot for 1750 consistent rpms with a peak of around 1800

But again the machine definitely flew nice with this combo but i cant get the high speed passes i am looking for.......

Yes, after flying three 9 min flights I was still in the 1800 to 1850 range
I agree I would love to be in the 1800 then as the pack comes off the pack and 1750 I think that would be the best
That is why I am going to try a smaller pinnion
IMO I think that running at 1800 to 1900 is just wasted WATTS that could be used for more flight time
I'll let you know what happends tonight

Can you tell me were you have your Gov pots set at on the V3?
I would like to see if we are even close
Thanks

is that correct you got 3 9 minute flights??? with the 24-4 and 23 tooth??

Wow

I only get 2 10 minute flights on the 24-5 with 25 tooth and lower rpms... i still have about 1000 mah left in the 8000 pack.. i try not to run too low so that the pack doesnt get too hot at the end...

This thread is great! I am trying to decide on a Lipo config for my machine. I am running a 24-4 with a 24t pinion. It is at about 1700 with 30 cells NiMH. I am trying to decide between 9S and 10S LiPo. With the Joker head, I get as much cyclic as I need at 1700 so that is my target headspeed. Is 9s similar in voltage to 30 cells? If I can get the same headspeed, I can save the extra weight and cost compared to a 10S pack.

Anyone try a 24-4 with 24t and 9S Lipo? Any thoughts?

By the way, how are you guys securing the packs in the machine?

Thanks for the responses,

John

Charger

Larry,
I like the Orbit Microlader V6.2. I use 2 of them one for each battery to charge them seperate. They charge at 5 amps but there is new software chips comming out in about 1 month that will let them charge at 8 amps. And the new chip is only suppose to be 10-15.00 each.

John I have never tried 9s4p only 10s4p
But I don't see why it wouldn't work
I would guess that you head speed would be around 1850 at peck
I use two velcro straps to hold mine in place and have never lose one yet

Larry on the charger
I use the same as Mike 2 Orbit charges ( can wait for the upgrade)
I have a buddy that is using Schulze as well it seems to work well also.

Mike, can't wait to see you this weekend sporting a new Joker
Very cool

Dave,

did you try the 22 tooth on the 24-4??

What was the rpms at the different points of the packs capacity??

I flew a few flights on the 24-5 with the 25 tooth and it flew great.. I am starting to get used to the rpms but i will still build another machine with a 24-4 and either 22 or 23 tooth depending on your results.
