Blades, Night Flying and Painting > "V" Paddles on my SRII

Well, I started using "V" paddles on my SRII. I had previously posted my concern about sliding the stock weights inboard because of the small single 3 mm set screw. The first picture shows the stock setup the paddle weights about 47 gr. and the "keyed" weight an additional 9 gr. My first setup was the "V" paddle (about 22 gr.) with a un keyed weight from a SR (10 gr.). I was surprised to find that the handling was the same as stock. I then slid the weights all the way inboard and it quickened up the continuous pitch and role rate but the hover was unchanged. I then removed the SR weight an substituted a flybar collar (2.5 gr. with a 4 mm set screw) tight against the paddle and it fly's great. The only thing I notice is that in hover it is a little "nervous", not overly sensitive but sort of like the "dance" it would do at low rpm but much less amplitude and much more irregular. I posted because I am sure that my experience is applicable to most other machines

Just an update. I think I found the "nervousness" Close inspection reveals the lower rear web of the fwd upper servo frame is cracked all the way through and a crack is about half way through the vertical web. This was (IMHO) causing the front end (where the gyro is) to "wag" (as well as the lateral cyclic servo) A new one is on order and a "JB" weld repair will hold it for this weekend

I also had this frame failure happen to me. I used JB Weld to cast it and it worked for a month of so. The SRII head does not like head speeds below 1600. If there is any wind it will not sit still. Remember the damping for the flapping head is a result of the head RPM's. The higher the RPM's the more damping effect.
