I was checking out the Extreme Flight Championships web page. ( http://www.franknolljr.com/ ) Reading the descriptions of mandatory manuevers I was impressed, whatever they are they sound difficult.

Could anyone point me to a site where I could find out exactly what "A suck-up 540 Stall Turn with a tail-down 1/2 roll to an inverted exit." is? I understand a stall turn, and inverted exit seems plain enough, but the rest...

Thanks much.

I've not heard the term "suck up 540". These terms seem to get re-invented all the time. My guess is that they are trying to specify a 540 done after a cyclic climb. So you pull back the cyclic to climb. Lower the collective while approaching straight nose up. Let the momentum carry the heli straight up and as you run out start the 540. Stop with the tail pointed straight down. This is now a tail slide. During this point, roll the heli 180 and pull aft cyclic and add negative to come out flying inverted backward. Seems like they tend to give them funny names to has some mystery to the trick. Would you be eager to try something called a "death spiral"? But its pretty basic when you think about it. Not that the pucker factor is not there.
