| The constant drive allows you to continue to control the tail in an auto. If you do not have a constant drive or slipper the tail rotor will usually come to a stop during auto's and you are at the mercy of the wind and torque.
The advantage to a constant tail drive is obvious. The disadvantages are that it robs head speed, though not to bad, and if you loose a tail servo there is no escape from the piro's that will follow. If you loose the tail servo with a standard hub you can auto it down, altitude permitting, and the tail should start to weather vane. With that being said all my helicopters have driven tails. |
