HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Shuttle Sceadu 30

Just thought that i'd share my review of the Sceadu 30 I'm about 2/3 done with the kit and am pleased with it so far. It's easy to build and has lots of bearings, something that my Shuttle Challenge was lacking. I'll try it first without the cooling shroud them if it overheats I'll put it in. I have installed an OS32SX and will run a JR G450 gyro. I'll try the gyro up front first. I dont like the rear top mount. I hope it works ok there. I'll be using a JR 8103 radio. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

I just wanted to see how you are doing with your sceadu

I am planning to purchase a Sceadu 30 with the following

OS32SXH
Futuba GY401
and Futuba 8UHFS Radio set

I think the servo comes with the kit

Please let me know if it is a good choice and how your progress is

The only change to your setup I would make is to get a Futaba FF9 instead of the 8. I collected my FF9 on Friday and it is excellent - far better than my old FF8.

Here in the UK it is almost impossible to get a FF8 now.

Hi

I will wait for the Futuba 9 channel PCM . I heard it is cheaper than the current 8 channel. Gyro will stay the same and I will use the servo from the the radio

You should really check your numbers.

While the 9C/FF9 appears to be cheaper, the heli sets come w/
(at best) 4 9001 servos. The better 8U sets came w/ 5 9202's
which are significantly better servos (and usableon a .60 machine).

I wouldn't put 9001's on a 60.

Also, no trainer cords (for a simulator) until sometime early 2002.

I have manual and assembly tips on my site as well, feel free to check it out!
I think the Seadu weight is comparable to the Raptor 30 which means it is not heavy at all.

As far as the gyro mounting location goes, I'd recommend the tail position, especially with the 401, as there is only one lisnge iptem, and it is closer to the tail servo that way so no extension is needed to plug it in. Also I've heard that some had tail waging issues with the gyro mounted on the front.

Jay have you flown it yet? I'm anxious to hear about the os32sxh in the sceadu. Thats what im planning to get. Does the 32 provide good power?

Casper, if you can spend the extra $$$ I'd highly recommend getting the 50 instead. While the OS32 is a nice very reliable engine, it is not famous about putting out a lot of ponies. In contrast the OS50 is not only very solid, it is the ultimate powerplant to put into a Sceadu.
I know that by the time you get the Sceadu 50 OS50 and a decent set of blades, you're already $200 over the price of the Sceadu 30, but I think it's money well spent.

Casper: I have not finished the Sceadu 30 yet. I've been busy at work and with the Holidays fast approaching Ive not had the time, plus Ive been flying my JR Ergo 46. The motor that I am going to use came out of my trainer, a Hirobo Shuttle Challenge, and it was very reliable. It seemed to have plenty of power but I know that the Sceadu is heavier and slightly larger. I chose the 30 because I already have a 46 size machine and I wanted to change over the Shuttle's motor, gyro and radio. I am hopeful that Ill be pleased with the Sceadu 30. Contact Walt Ferar at http://www.skyeyephoto.com He was flying a Sceadu at the LA Fun Fly in August before they were available to the public. Walt should be able to give you some insight on the 30s performance. Also the November/December issue of Rotary Modeler, http://www.rotory.com has an article on the 30 and 50 and next month's Model Helicopter World http://www.traplet.com will also have an article. I am pleased with the quality of the kit so far but it wont be in the air for a few weeks. Hope this helps.

Jay

It's winter in Palm Springs California, guess I should turn off the A/C!

Mine Is Done And Flying...

My Sceadu is up and flying. It is very smooth. I really like the 570mm blades as well. Since they are semi's, they auto great. -Steve
