I'm hovering my Nexus 30 OK now, and have practiced lots w/G2. Any recommendations on gyro mode for first FF? (rate or HH).
I've experienced both on G2, and was wondering which you think is best for 1st FF.

If you have been flying G2 with HH then you should be ok. If you are set up in normal and it fly's ok then the only difference will be the "weather vaining" which will keep the "front" up front. For the early FF you don't get that far away.
