| I just received a new replacement Triton for one I sent back due to not be able to obtain the proper charge current on a Li-ion pack.
Unfortunately the new one basically does the same thing - in not being able to get to the 1.2A charge rate on a 2-cell 7.2V 1200mah pack. It was explained to me by Hobby Services that this may be normal for a 2-cell pack. Has anyone else experienced this???
However I decided to make sure the Triton works correctly when charging a Lead Acid battery (12V, 7.5AH) by first discharging it by 2750MAH at a voltage of 11.91 @2.6A. When I went to recharge it the current slowly ramped up to 3.0A as selected, and then started to ramp down.......but at only 1665MAH @2.8A (total time =41min) it just stopped with the "END" note meaning that charge was completed! It did not slowly ramp down to the normal 0.1A at 15.0V or so as my other Triton did. There is definitely something wrong with this charger.
This charger was a brand new one in a retail box.
I asked to talk to a knowledgeable person on the Triton -perhaps a designer or programmer and was told that the person who designed the Triton and was responsible for it is no longer there! I would hope that someone is looking into the complaints that people have and not just assuming that nothing is wrong with the Triton and just send out a "new" one.
My 2nd Triton is going back for another replacement in hopes of getting one that will finally work. I also hope that Great Planes hasn't given up on the Triton and is working on fixing the bugs or upgrading the firmware to make it more aggressive when charging Li-ion and Li-Po cells.
Update: Received my 3rd Triton from Hobby Services. This is another brand new unit and it too still does not charge my Pb Batteries properly.
I am waiting to hear from a Triton "Expert" about why my charger just shuts off with an "END" while still charging near the maximum current level. Instead of just sending me a new charger they should investigate what is causing this to happen and fix it!
