Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Fury fuel line requirements.

Hey Guys. Got a question for you.

I have the 60 Expert and love it. But, I have noticed that the fuel lines are rather long on this bird. I have a Hatorri 2-piece muffler on a OS .61 WC. I bet the total length from muffler tap to the carb(including through the header tank is ~16 inches due to the fuel tank positioning. On this particular pipe the pressure tap comes directly off the pipe header flange.

I have been noticing some random changes in headspeed on occasion and wonder if the length of fuel line posses any problems. I was wondering if putting a Perry pump on or getting a YS would have been the better way to go. The Vigor CS has the same tank positioning and long lines and I noticed that Curtis is using a Perry pump on his.

Have any of you guys noticed any fuel delivery problems using the OS .61 on the 60 Expert?

I'm not sure why you have such a long vent line, it would seem the tank to header distance should be rather short on the Fury. Note a pic from Helibuf's site here: http://www.helibuf.com/pictures/fur...ew/day6/gov.jpg the vent should only be approx 8" long.
I have a 61sxwc in my xcell and I did notice that when I had a header tank mounted in the rear, the long runs of fuel line from the tank, past the engine to the header and then back to the carb was causing me some mixture problems. I took off the header tank and used a nice short piece of fuel line to the tank and have not had any problems since. I would suggest bypassing the header tank and see if things improve. Nothing like a little fuel starvation to kill a new engine.

Fuel line

It's not just the vent line. In Helibuffs pic I think he did not have it connected at that time but my distance would be from the header bolt area to the tank nipple. Not all that bad necessarily.

But, when you add the equivalent distance back to the carb from the tank it adds up quick! Not to mention I have a 2oz header tank. Which I am used to using on my Raptor30. Which brings up a good question. Is the Fury fuel tank good enough to get away with out using it? My only reason for header tanks is a bubble trap and being able to fly the main tank close to empty.

To me, this seems like a long distance. I am just wondering if anybody else has found fuel delivery problems or if it is just me. Maybe I should ditch the header tank. Don't know?

I posted a couple of pics of my fury .91. I made a holder for both sides to hold the fuel line and pressure tap line. Here they are from my gallery.
I have since modified it and have only the fuel filter installed on the fuel line, no longer a filter on the exhaust . I have taken the filter off of the lower part of the frame (used to be tie wraped) and now just hangs in line with the line.

Ok.....

I have the exact same fuel routing but without the holders. Although, you have a little extra loop on the exhaust side that I don't have.

Maybeim,
Any problems with fuel mixture changes in flight?

Lift,
To tell the truth I have not had it in FFF yet or 3D. Hovered one tank of fuel a couple of weeks ago and that's it. It's been real windy and wet as of late. I went to visit Todd Bennett and Jason Krause at the begining of this month and they suggested redoing my fuel line setup, so I did.

The pics posted are the original build and not the current setup. I know that Todd runs YS's and so does Jason, these motors pump fuel like crazy. I use an OS .91 and in a hover runs smooth. Curtis Youngblood uses OS motors, but I think uses a perry pump.

The fuel line posts I added to the frames is to keep the lines from floping around and interacting with control links. Only comment from Todd was " one more thing that could break in a crash, but otherwise looks good"
