Pretty new at this. Located a couple of very helpful guys on the Pilot locator.. the one guy probably saved me months and $100s of aggravation. I cannot reenforce it enough... get some hands on help if you are just starting out.

Flying Hawk IV, OS .32SXH, Futaba 9CHP, GY401/S9253, S9001s on the rest.

The helpful guy got it up once on a VERY windy day, had to quit though, to windy and COLD. He gave me some good suggestions to fix some things when I got home.

Tried again yesterday, he got it up, tweaked the curves, checked head speed, put it down and gave it to me.

The GY401 locks the tail extremely well, making the rest pretty straight forward. I hovered the rest of the tank without incedent.

Today, took it out in the backyard completely on my own, put on the training gear and hovered a whole tank. What a rush! Started to rain, had to put all the fun stuff away. The weather here sucks.

I can't believe I have not bashed it into the ground. I can already hold a hover in one spot (which I got worked out today, could not keep it still yesterday), but need to work on keeping a steady altitude. I will probably just hover for a long while until my G2 simulator arrives.

This guy and a friend of his really helped me out, this site did too.

Thanks to all,

I remember those days

42GPW,

I remember when I had just burned 2 tanks... WOW, the exhilaration!!! I remember it like it was last week!!! Probably because it was...sounds like you passed me.

I can hover a whole tank low or high, but I do cover a little of room. Various circumstances have only allowed me to burn 2 more tanks, but I hope that will change.

Keep it up and us posted on your achievements.

Best of luck,

I don't know if you guys are running into this, but what I've found from my practice is that I'm slowly being able to handle more controls at once. My first few flights were spent just managing cyclic... I had to basically stop moving the cyclic anytime I needed to make emergency adjustments to throttle or tail. (but one at a time) Then I started managing throttle too but was always accidentally moving tail when I moved throttle or vice-versa.

Now I'm managing throttle at the same time as I manage cyclic. Still having issues integrating rudder into the mental mix though, thank the gods for heading hold gyros. Hopefully I'll have all the pieces to the puzzle assembled in another galon or so.

Sim? what sim? we don't need no stiiinking sim!

GPW,

Well done. The more fuel you burn, the bigger that smile/grin will get
