Scale Model RC Helicopters > Pod and Boom for future semi-scale project

Hello,
I am interested in large scale Realistic flying. By Realistic I mean in looks and SOUND. My budget is limited but I want the best possible quality for a future scale project.I am starting with pod and boom and then I will attempt a scale project.I am only interested in 60 size. I have also been told to stay away from 4 stroke applications due to heat, power and maintenence issues. That leaves me with glow or gas.
Do all gas heli's SOUND like a chainsaw? Is'nt there a way to quiet it down so that it sounds more realistic?
In a glow application I am looking at the EAGLE FREYA 90. With the 90 and special gearing running at lower rpms, is supposed to sound much quieter than a 60 motor in the same heli. I am also looking at the purchase of a Hatori or Zimmerman muffler to tone it down but I am somewhat concerned that the muffler will not fit in a jet ranger or bell222-230 fuselage in the future. My minimum requirements are all ball bearing drivetrain and mandatory driven tail.
ANY IDEAS?

VARIO !!

Hello Tom, I fly all my scale helicopters with Vario Benzin mechanics. The Z230 gas enine is a powerful powerplant with many different exhaust applications to get the sound you want. I try to use a tuned pipe in most applications to get a mellower sound but, in some heli's there is not enough room for these so you have to use a can muffler. All in all the Vario Gasser is the best choice for scale as there are many fuse's designed for this mechanics!! Hope this helps with your choice for Scale.

Dr. Tim,
Have you heard the gasser as Quiet as a 60? Who do you suggest I see about the Vario for best prices?

thanks,
Tom

Dr. Tim,
You guys are WAY out of my league. I only have a $2000 budget to work with for a pod and boom application-radio servos gyro - everything to get started.
I guess Graupner Heim/Vario are the high$ serious scale. Maybe in the future for me but for right now I just want a Quality kit to go into a semi-scale fuselage in the future.

thanks,
Tom

Then talk to Sandy at V-East. he will happily sell you an Augusta 109 power kit, with Graupner Uni2000 mechanics and an OS61 for $1000. Add a zimmerman muffler and you have one of the quietest smooth flying semi scale helis around. Throw a high end gyro and a bunch of servos in there and you will still have change out of your $2000
