| My freya fell from about 30 feet thanks to a part unscrewing from the swash. I guess I didn't locktite that one . I had very little control as it was falling and didn't know why it was falling at the time since I could hear the engine. It landed on its feet in the corner of a wooden fence 2' from the actual fence on both sides. but its feet broke on landing and a short chicken dance ensued despite killing the engine on the way down. The boom was bent down. I replaced the canopy because it was cracked in a few places and looked bad. I also had a set of V-blades. The tail rotor box was fine but the tail blades and tail rotor shaft were replaced. My carbon fins survived without a scratch. No damage to the electronics. No frame damage except for the battery tray. Damage to all the normal stuff such as main mast, flybar, and paddles. Including everything plus shipping it cost about $400. The main reason the cost was so high is that I got into a hurry and ordered parts before I fully understood what was needed. So I had a few second and next day air shipments to try to get it flying by next weekend (which didn't happen) as well as a wrong part or two. My guess is that I could have saved over $100 if I had taken my time. More if I didn't go ahead and replace the canopy, the windshield was beyond repair. While I was cussing and scratching my head during the long walk over to the fallen freya I also said "Damn, it doesn't look all that bad considering".
The only advantage to the Fury that i can see is the weight. I know Power to weight ratio is an important factor for 3D. However, the upgrade path to making the Freya into a 91 seems pretty cheap and easy. I heard the Fury was much more costly to switch but I think I also read a post about MA making the upgrade for a Fury pretty easy also. I am not a cheerleader for either one as I think it benefits us (the consumer) to be hard on all of them.
BTW, I count blades and shipping cost into my crashes because that is what you need to spend to get it flying. |
