Many have asjked for it and now I've done it. I made a quick spread sheet. to see the costs of repairing both machines. I left off the items that where more unique to each.

Take a look.

All and all not bad in comparision.

Ken,

thats great but a couple of points.

1. if the flybar really is 2/pkg, then the price
should be adjusted (kind of a 'per crash cost')

2. does it make sense to factor in a 'probability'
(ie. less chance of trashing a Freya plastic canopy or belt vs. a trashed torque tube & Fury canopy) ??

Even using your current #'s, the Freya is about
20% or so less expensive to crash.

How many responses will it take to have this
thread degenerate into another Fury v. Freya
pi**ing match? So, fly whatever you like and
makes you happy!

Ken,

Augusto did this a while back also.. A few things to consider... The Freya canopy is gonna survive even the harshest of crashes, not sure about a fiberglass... You listed a bunch of stuff that rarely if ever breaks on a Freya, not sure about the Fury parts, but tail stuff and main gear rarely go on the Freya. I thought it was interesting to see that the Freya was cheaper to repair than even the Rap60! Aren't Hirobo parts supposed to be expensive???

My freya fell from about 30 feet thanks to a part unscrewing from the swash. I guess I didn't locktite that one . I had very little control as it was falling and didn't know why it was falling at the time since I could hear the engine. It landed on its feet in the corner of a wooden fence 2' from the actual fence on both sides. but its feet broke on landing and a short chicken dance ensued despite killing the engine on the way down. The boom was bent down. I replaced the canopy because it was cracked in a few places and looked bad. I also had a set of V-blades. The tail rotor box was fine but the tail blades and tail rotor shaft were replaced. My carbon fins survived without a scratch. No damage to the electronics. No frame damage except for the battery tray. Damage to all the normal stuff such as main mast, flybar, and paddles. Including everything plus shipping it cost about $400. The main reason the cost was so high is that I got into a hurry and ordered parts before I fully understood what was needed. So I had a few second and next day air shipments to try to get it flying by next weekend (which didn't happen) as well as a wrong part or two. My guess is that I could have saved over $100 if I had taken my time. More if I didn't go ahead and replace the canopy, the windshield was beyond repair. While I was cussing and scratching my head during the long walk over to the fallen freya I also said "Damn, it doesn't look all that bad considering".

The only advantage to the Fury that i can see is the weight. I know Power to weight ratio is an important factor for 3D. However, the upgrade path to making the Freya into a 91 seems pretty cheap and easy. I heard the Fury was much more costly to switch but I think I also read a post about MA making the upgrade for a Fury pretty easy also. I am not a cheerleader for either one as I think it benefits us (the consumer) to be hard on all of them.

BTW, I count blades and shipping cost into my crashes because that is what you need to spend to get it flying.

I wanted to compare as many equal parts as I could.

In Augasto's prior post he skewed things a tad in the initial post and I wanted to see for my self what I was faced with.

I agree that several of the items in the Freya most likely would survive a crash. I personally have busted up tail parts more than any.

When I had posted earlier that I splated my Fury several people wanted to do a comparison of parts. Well I did. Granted I didn't have near the amount of damage I listed but in all the crashes I have had, the listed items seam to be most common.

I have no intention of starting the Freya vs. Fury vs. Raptor vs. everything else debate. I like both machines from what I have experienced. They are very different from each other and I like variety.

I thought you did a good comparison. So whats the verdict? Is the Furry worth it or are you still wanting more flight time? I'll have a 60 size engine freed up soon and it will need a new heli to live in.

since it was brought up, if you realy compare the rap60 parts from other sources ie: heli hut and ricks the prices will be much cheeper for the r60. with ricks tourque tube you wont need to replace the ends thus the tube is $12 plus the boom is $10 = $22. isnt this the price for just a freya belt?

Hey....i just want to be fair, truthfull about this. if it were the other way arround id let you know also.

Here is som more truth.... the raptor 60 with upgrades is more expensive than a Fury.

What about crashes you say......it all depends on what you broke doesn't it?

Nice comparison.

I didn't realize how much US flyers pay so much more for parts. I get Hirobo parts around 20% cheaper RETAIL from the LHS here. Maybe I should start a web business
