Hello All,

I am in the maket for buying my first heli and decided on the raptor 50 v2. I was also impressed today with someone elses rappy 50 that had an electric motor. Can anyone share any information about this. I would like to get the rappy 50 with an electric motor.

Thanks,
Mike

I am interested too... but is it really necessary to switch to CCPM? I don't understand the big deal about switching. Maybe someone can explain why this is so much better. I like the way the Rappy flies already!

Primary reason for CCPM is to reduce weight. A bunch of (heavy) plastic can be removed with the conversion.

Disclaimer: I don't have a ERaptor but have been following the various thread regarding its development.

hoverking...

hope you will post when you are able to get a hold of this conversion. If anyone else has one converted already I'd like to hear about it.

I have a RappE 50... Very nice machine. I use Als motor mount and CCPM kit. The problem with the Raptor is that it is made for IC and is very sturdy. Sturdy translates into heavy where electric power is concerned. Getting it as light as possible is very important. Mine is just under 7.5 lbs and it flies like it has an OS 50 in it, just that it goes for almost 20 minutes

I talked with Jeff F. from Ace at IRCHA, they were thinking that it would be more like early 2004 before anything from TT would be released...

You can see pics/info at my homepage at the bottom, or if that doesn't work: http://69.128.16.233

I'm not sure I'd recommend the electric conversion for a beginner though...

where is the best place to get that Hacker B50-15XL they talk about on electraflight? Does it come with a speed controller or is that more?

I got mine from aircraft-world.com

Don't worry about it being in Japan, Dave has great service, shipping is very fast and cheap.

You need an ESC as well. I have the Schulze, but he has the Hacker 48-03p heli for a good price.

Get the C50, it has built in cooling fins, well worth the couple extra $...

pwkpete,

Thanks! on the speed controller, are you referring to the
HM-H48-3POPTO ?

That will work with the HM-B50-XL15-H ?

Thanks again! .... going to have to look that over... I don't even know what the connectors you need look like.

daggit,

Yes that is the ESC. The motor you linked to will work fine. I happen to like the C50 better. With the cooling fins built into the case, I think it can dissipate heat better. I have the C50-16XL, but they have the 15XL too, I'm very happy with the 16, I get over 2000RPM headspeed for the first few minutes, then it settles into the upper 1800's. Heres the other motor:

http://aircraft-world.com/proddetai...50-XL15&from=26

For the motor to the ESC, you can use bullet connectors, I forgot the diameter I've used, I think 3.5 or 4mm, Aircraft world has them too. Some solder the ESC to the motor, I'm not a big fan of that, it's not necessary and makes it a pain to take apart if you need to. My Schulze has built in connectors.

If you want to see pictures: http://69.128.16.233, looks like the server is running!

I have heard so much about this 50size E Raptor I made an impulse buy and picked up a THIS nice one with aluminum and CF upgrades, fiber glass canopy and 600 CF blade. I also picked up a RTF Caliber 30 deal with hundreds of dollars of stuff for the price of kit with engine because it was to cheap to pass up.

I did not realize that the electronics motor and batteries were going to set me back about 400 +. I can only keep one and Im leaning to the C30 what do you guys think? Should I keep the Rappe 50?

You should have converted the one you sold me!

For a RappE and standard ('in'-runner) motors you are best off using the electraflight kit. You really need the larger main gear (95T) you you can keep the motor RPM high as they don't have the torque that the outrunners have. My second RappE is setup to test a new outrunner motor..

I'm not surprised he wasn't happy with that machine, seeing the way he had it setup. I did buy the Hacker from that heli though

You sparked my interest when you told me what you were going to do! So If I keep it are you saying to mounting the motor outside is best?

I cut some CF to make 120 servo mounts. and I am making the brackets from aluminum. I am going to pick up a Ravan metal 10mm swash from century for $40. That is If it worth the money I have to dish out to get it flying.

It does indeed look like it has a Raptor 60 (95T) gear on it.

Did you get his motor?

It is possible to keep the motor back there, I found that it was very tail heavy, so moving as much stuff to the front made it easier to balance out, which is why I got the electraflight motor mount kit.

Don't know anything about the Raven swash, I got the quickuk one..

That guy is Al. Don't know how often he is on RR here, but he regularly posts at rcgroups.com in the electric heli forum.

I've spoken with him, what are you tryin to find out?
