Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Circlips or CA?

I tried *very* hard to get all four circlips onto the rods that go through the bell mixers but eventually gave up. I found a tip somewhere that said that you could just put some CA on the ends of the rod and that would be adequate to prevent anything coming apart.

I understand that you'd have to inspect the CA to see that a reasonable amount was still on the pin, every so often. BUT it still worries me somewhat.

I read a tip here about how to get the circlips on - I'm not sure I can still find them - should I just stick with the CA and check it regularly or is it just not a good idea at all?

I haven't heard anything about the CA trick, but I wouldn't suggest trying it. This is what I did to get them on. I first laid the circlips on a small block of wood, I then set the metal pin directly in the middle of the clip while I held it loosely with a set of needle nose pliers, I then lightly tapped on it using a small hammer. The wood block was hard enough to keep the clip from moving, but it allowed the pin to go though the clip. By doing it this way, it only took me a few minutes to put all the clips on. Hope this helps!

CA On pins

Well as it turns out I STILL use CA on my pins

One of my XL's started out as a Xcell 60 from the late 80's and back then the pins did not have circlips at all and no grooves on the pins.

The pins fit tight enough even without any CA or clips. I still put a drop of CA on the tips anyway, but I am not worried at all.

I would do the trick that david suggested - it works.

Go to Sears and for $15 buy a pair of c-clip pliers. Worked great on my fury. You can use them on your raptor auto hub c-clips to!

David, the tool is a Sears Craftsman Professional c-clip tool. They will do inner and outer c-clips. In addition, they come with several different size tips and some will fit the small c-clips. They are crome with black handles and they are approximately six inches long. Hope this helps!
Matt
Another cool thing about this tool is the tips are held in by set screws so, if you do not like the tips that come with it you can make some!

I would take the closed end of the circlip in a pair of needle nose pliers and gently force a jewliers flat blade screwdriver into the open end just enough the flex the clip open...slide the clip over the end of the pin and pull the screwdriver free! Rotate the clip back and forth to ensure the clip IS in the groove and go to the next one...Chris (a former X-Cell Jockey)

Chris,
That's how I do it. Works everytime! Well, almost, I sure am glad you get at least 1 extra clip 'cause using the screwdriver method I've launched a couple of them into orbit! Man, can those suckers get ballistic PIINNG!

hehe actually, when I referred to not being able to find 'them' in my first post, I was actually referring to the clips and not the tips. Some of which I do remember.

BUT I have picked up one anomoly with the tips: I don't have a groove in my pins for the circlip to slide into.

Also, the pins in the tail assemble, part #0225 - they seem to just slide in and are not held with circlips. I used some CA on the ends of those pins too. Surely the forces on these pins and the ones on the washout arms are similar? So why no circlips for the tail.

I use a oak blk with a small hole drilled to match the bushing arm rod and the c clips go right on easy as pie and nothing ever gets lost this way try it. They will push right on with your hands only. I have no idea why min air dosent just state this in the destructions its a no brainer really.
