e-JR Voyager E > Choice between Voyager E and MS Hornet

Hi,
I'm trying to make my mind up between 2 different heli's. Both have merits and both are very different kinds of machines.

The first is a CP MS Hornet....
Comes with Hacker brushless motor, Phoenix 10 speed control, GWS gyro, 4 Hitec HS-55 servos, Hitec 6ch receiver and some extra parts.
$300.00

The other is a JR Joyager E with some boom and tail damage.

Comes complete with servos, JR GY-240 gyro, motor, speed controller, super brain charger and 2 sony 3000 mah NIMH batteries.
It Needs a new tail boom, tail blades/fins, and tail control parts. Approx $40 of new parts. There is no other damage to the heli. Motor is in great condiiton with a substantial amount of the brushes left.

Also included is super brain 959 charger and 2 3000 mah batteries. Both batteries have been cycled several times and each hold adequate charge for approx 5-7 minutes of flight.

What would the Voyager be worth? I'm figureing around the same (300.00+-) but what do I know:-)

I think I prefer the Voyager mostly due to the size of the heli but I do like the idea of brushless on the Hornet. On the other hand I want a HH gyro on whatever I choose.

The Voyager has a GY-240 gyro. Are all GY-240's HH?
I have no idea about the GWS gyro on the Hornet.

Any comments appreciated.
Thanks,
Rod

I had a Voyager E and I hated it! It was stock and the run times were awful!!! Now it was very stable in flight and flew great but I was only getting around 4-5 minutes a flight, it was terrible!!! It was way too heavy, just check out the canopy. If you want to take full advantage of a Voyager E, you have to really invest the money in it and upgrade to brushless and all that. And by that time, you could have a realy nice heli!. Otherwise it is real disappointing.

I have also had a Piccolo and I loved it! So I would say get the Hornet, especially if it already brushless. The micro-helis are a lot of fun.

Just my opinion,

If you are starting out, the VoyE is a better first heli in my opinion than the Hornet. I've owned them both, the Hornet is pretty fragile, VoyE is more stable.

I/m leaning more and more toward the Voyager. I can always upgrade to a brushless at a later time. What would the Voyager listed above be worth considering the damaged tail?

Thanks,

Why not look at the Logo line - I've seen these choppers in the ai rat full 3D?

Just a thought.

Good Luck

You might check into the replacement parts cost for the Voyager E too. There are not cheap. I had to replace the swashplate on mine once and it was $60! You also need to watch the brushes on the motor, they burn out pretty often and need to be replaced regularly. Heliproz has all the replacement parts if you want to check out the prices, especially if you need to replace the tail and boom.

Hornet

Rod,

Did you see the post about a Micro 3D? Granted the Hornet had like $200 worth of upgrades on the head, but man did it rock. The video is on Helihobby.com.

Thanks for the comments. Being a new heli flyer I think the larger size and HH gyro are selling it for me. I see in the poll that the Voyager is holding the lead for now. I'm not considering the Logo since these two I am taking about are used heli's.

One thing I really need to know is what the Voyager should be worth in this condition. I have search Runryder and can't find anything comparable to go by.

Any guesses? :-)

Thanks,
Rod

I saw that Voyager E on Ebay. If the tail is crashed, you should ask if the TR blade holders need to be replaced. They will set you back $50. alone.

Other than the cost of parts and upgrades, I love my Voyager E.
