That "handling" fee exists. You think the stuff gets taken from stores, boxed up, and put on the truck by itself?
- Steve

That is total crap. Don't be brainwashed. It is shady business itemizing these cost that are clearly Overhead and calling them a seperate 'Fee' so that they can keep unobtainable, artificaly low sale prices. What elso is going to go into this 'handling fee'?...the rent for thier receving and delivery wharehouse? the salary of the nice lady that took the order on the phone?

You don't walk into a supermarket to buy eggs, and get hit with a carton packaging, and shelfing fee do you?

Dinosours like Tower will need to adapt to the leaner generation if internet vendors or become extinct. Long gone are the days I remember when Tower was the only real game in town.

Barnes and Noble had to do it to compete with Amazon.

they don't rip you off... because you know UPFRONT what the shipping will cost. if you don't like it... go somewhere else... that simple. it's a free country...
i barley ever order from them, but just got two 12V/7A gel batteries... shipping was $7.99 for a 16lb package... i am sure i won on that one, plus no sales tax
just do the math...

You actually do get hit with a handling fee for that carton of eggs, it is just already included in the price... it is called markup. Wal-mart didn't pay .89 for those eggs, they paid around .15 (just making up numbers). That markup helps pay the salary of the nice lady that checks you out.

Thank you, shaggy; I was beginning to wonder what color the trees are in this thread's world.

HobbyHomee, the exchange rate has everything to do with it if you buy on the local economy. The last time I was in Germany, in the late 70s, the rate was larcenous: like, one mark sixty-five to the dollar: and the Germans exploited it big-time, like a typical European "ally" (Brits excepted; they are good people). Apparently my point sailed wide of the mark, or else attitudes are different these days.

So, instead of getting your blood pressure up, just don't buy from The Empire anymore.

Jagboy69,

I've been ordering from tower for 6 years and never had any problems with "out of stock items" If it shows in stock on their web site I order it, if it says out of stock I look elsewhere. Its very simple.

As far as shipping cost they tell you that upfront, if you don't want to pay that much for shipping then don't and buy from someone else. Me personally I like their $7.99 flat shipping rate. My stuff gets to me in 3 days using their Ground shipping.

Yes and No Shaggy. But, that is exactly the point I was making. The carton does not have an inflated, suprise 'FEE', it has a has a handing cost worked into the price already. A cost that you see when your shopping around for the best price.

The empire does not do that. If you bought eggs at Tower they would charge you additional for the carton, shelfing, etc. when you got to the checkout.

The Empire is bieng decietful! The EMPIRE WILL FALL! ....Luke...

I just go to Heli-proz, or Rick's. There both honest, and there is alot to be said for honesty in this day and age!

some 15 years ago I bought a few RC cars from Tower, so for my 90 RC boat I wanted to buy a scratched Dayton (spell check) starter from Towers for $35, well the total price came to $52 (shipping & handling, tax) so I told the guy "your nuts, I'm not going to pay all that" so I called this guy Ray Taylor, $55 no shipping charges, no tax and no scratches, yea I paid $3 more, but I felt that Tower was unfair ,,, I have never bought from them again..

When I first made the purchase I was giving them the benifit of the doubt and thinking OK maybe this is a calculated shipping price but seemed a little much. This is why I took it to the counter to check. I just feel they and really all companies need to charge what it cost to ship. I suppose if I was ordering a box full of 12V batteries then I suppose I could be reaping the benifit of this set shipping price but I havent and do foresee myself ever ordering enough parts to add up to $19.99. And if I to take a guess most of the orders probably dont go beyond $19.99 or it wouldnt be $19.99 it would be more. Anyway now I know.
Hey Maddog7 thanks for the link they got tons o parts.

Tower Hobbies

I have been using Tower Hobbies since my R/C solo flight in 1981.
I stopped keeping track of the cost after several thousand dollars
of equipment. I have never had a problem that was not solved
immediatly over the phone. Some times the delivery is slow, especially UPS. Their problem not Tower. You always know if the item is in stock and if not their back order system works great. Dick

Hope you get things worked out Homee. I'm a Load on the C-17 and I am back and forth all the time to Rhein-Mein and I have a lot of buds there/headed back and forth every day. I know its a bit of a hike, but if I can help you out in any way, let me know.
I will be deployed there (my squadrons turn to run the 817th) in January for 90 days...maybe I will bring my toys and pop over to do some flying....

HobbyHomee,

You've made an ass of yourself when you ASSUMED that $19.99 shipping was an estimated cost, and that they would rebate you.

Next time, just call them up and ask. Now, you will know, that Tower Hobbies ALWAYS charges $20 for USPS Priority, and more for others.

And, yes you can work this to your advantage sometimes. I do buy from Tower Hobbies, they are great.

They have been doing this since before 1996 (when I started flying). I don't think they would change just for you

HobbyHomee,
Why didn't you think about all this before you bought a Nexus? Did it ever occur to you that Tower was thousands of miles away and maybe there is a local merchant that would rather have your business? They told you the price and you are an idiot to make the purchase if you didn't like it.

I buy from Tower and pay $4.99 for shipping. I get my orders in a couple days. I usually get a $20 rebate too. Who else does that? Not Ricks. Not anybody else I know of.

And for all of you that hate Tower and think they're going out of business... Who cares? Not me. Do you have any more interesting predictions?

Everyone else has been ranting, now I've had my say too.

I don't think Tower is trying to rip everybody off. The Tower flaming is unjust. I have been shopping with Tower for about 10 years. I don't think there 13 dollar usps shipping is steep. When I order I try to take advantage of the min purchase offers they reg have which then takes care of the shipping charges.

Large items has the same rate, inwhich you just can't beat. I can not complain about there shipping policies. The only complaint (not really a complaint) I have against Tower is the fact they do not have everything I need. Pretty weak on Heli's. But no one can have everything avail for sale.

Shipping is always going to be expensive, places that offer "free shipping" will get there money somewhere else; usually inflating the prices.

I am not going to stop shopping at Tower Hobbies.

Just my thoughts

This is how they appear to offer lower costs. They jab certain people on certain things and they average the profit where a local business would add a standard mark-up on each item they pool the sales andacvieve an average. Support your local hobby shop for the next year and lets see how they react then. Most on line places have some way to earn back the low advertised prices.

When I refer to security I don't mean somebody is watching your
house I mean you are ordering from a respectable company, not some
dodgy little grey market company in Japan or Hong Kong.

Yeah dah, I think everyone knows this fact that tower often overcharge
for postage it's just some people accept it and some people don't, they
have fixed postage costs, if I am getting something from them I can't get here in Australia I don't have a problem paying postage to get it here, I don't know how much it costs to send something from the states to Australia or vice versa, I pay the price it costs to get my parts and don't complain about it. As for having them having figured this postage calculation thing out perhaps there is a reason they haven't, perhaps there website doesn't support it or perhaps UPS doesn't have a online calculator to use, I dunno. Or maybe it covers costs in other areas like the salary of the dude who packs it for you.

If your post goes to somewhere on the east coast and then the miliatry
take over what I don't understand is why are you paying shipping to
Germany when all you need to do is pay shipping to where ever it is
the military take over?

Vokul:

And why do you say that?
