e-Lite Machines Corona > Mode 1 setup need advise please help.

I have been flying my aeroplane on mode 1 because it's the most popular setup in Australia and basically most rc sold are on mode 1.
Now I am getting in heli that started about 6 weeks ago with Hummingbird and I am now building a Corona. I like to know why the manual do not recommend to have the cyclics on the left stick and rudder/ throttle on the right stick? I setup my Hummingbird like what was recommended with forward/backward cyclic and rudder on the left stick and throttle and right/left cyclic on the right.
Why is that?

I run Mode 1 too on my Raptor 30.

As far as separating the cyclics (inherent in a Mode 1 radio) , I believe that it assists the beginner so that the pilot does not inadvertently move both cyclics together when he actually only wants to adjust one. ( As I am sure you've found out by now , on a xy spring loaded gimble ... its near impossible to move on only one axis without getting a little movement on the other).

But having said that , you'll get used to whatever it is that you're using soon enough and it does not matter in the end. Besides , with Expo (compulsory for a beginner) , it will damp down whatever inadvertent 'mixing' you do with the sticks anyway.

That and , don't believe everything you read ................

With mode 1 both cyclics are controlled from 1 stick. Since we can use exponential wouldn't it still be better than having forward/backward cyclic on left stick and up/down on the right stick on mode 2?
My radio is on mode 2 but and I have been flying aeroplane for many years on mode 2.

Wrong.

Mode 1 radio is where your elevator is on the left stick and your aileron is on your right stick.

Elevator is fore/aft cyclic.

Aileron is left/right cyclic.

Read up before putting up a statement like that.

Ooops, I got mixed up between mode 1 and mode 2. But you know what I mean.

The corrected statement:
With mode 2 both cyclics are controlled from 2 stick. Since we can use exponential wouldn't it still be better than having forward/backward cyclic on left stick and up/down on the right stick on mode 1?
My radio is on mode 1 but and I have been flying aeroplane for many years on mode 1.

I would say most definitely have all cyclic movement on one stick, I guess it doesn't really matter as long as you fly the thing but it would be much much much simpler with all cyclic movement on one stick. You can tilt the swash in whatever direction you want whether it be diagnal etc.. if the cyclics are on seperate sticks you'll have to use both sticks just to hover and to do diagnal corrections which will complicate things bigtime in my opinion.

Yes I think makes more sense to have cyclics on one stick. I will practice on my HB first. The maiden flight might be tomorrow. I only have to put the gyro and do something with the receiver antenna.
Also I still have to make the training gear.

I fly fixed wing Mode1 or Mode2(but Mode1 is my main fixed wing mode) and heli's Mode2 only.

One of the main keys that allowed me to do this without confusion setting in was the way i hold the radio in each mode.

With fixed wing i hold the radio (no neckstrap) and just use thumbs on the sticks. With heli's i use a neckstrap or the small Petal Elite tray
with finger and thumb "pinch" technique. This helps to "lock" into one mode or the other without confusion.I cannot however fly heli's on Mode1 with thumbs on top,i find it very difficult and prone to dumb stick
the elevator with throttle/collective so i stick to Mode2 only with heli's.
The other thing is i have flown both modes side by side from around the same start time which is getting on for around 9 or 10 years now.I think it'll be much more difficult to swap modes if you've flown one Mode only for a long time.

Elevator with throttle/collective, or did you mean yaw with throttle/collective?

Definately Elevator with throttle/collective ,with Mode1 and Mode2 the aileron and rudder stay on the same sides of the tx (aileron on right and rudder on left),if they aren't it's classed as Mode 3 or Mode 4 ie transposed over sticks of Mode1 or Mode2.

an exception is a 3 channel (rudder only) fixed wing where it's common to put the rudder on the right hand side with either Mode1 or 2

man, I don't know how you fly a heli with cyclic movements on two different sticks, that some tough stuff...

I do like footaba,
Helis Mode 2
Planks Mode 1

I found it fairly easy to switch as you fly helis in such a different way.
I know of several other flyers that do the same.
Get yourself on a sim and try it out - you will adapt very quickly.

Chad,
I don't, that's why i chose to go with Mode2(cyclics on right stick),that and the fact the local model shop said they couldn't do a pre flight check for me when i first started if i didn't have it Mode2.Nobody in my aeroclub flew heli's at that time so i was sort of on my own and reliant on the local shops advice. The downside is that i now have two computer radio's

When i said throttle/collective with elevator, what i was meaning is that's where the confusion can be when someone attempts to swap between Mode1 and Mode2,as those two are the only controls that swap sides.

I could probably fly heli's on Mode1 with practise(with thumbs on top of sticks) but i wouldn't like to think about doing any piro circuit flying or piro flips,it just doesn't seem very intuitive for heli's, i rate Mode1 for fixed wing flying above Mode2 though.:-)
