| Here's a question for you guys, it's kind of a weird touchy feely one
I'm in the NE, we've had a lot of humidity and hot temps lately, so I've been blaming it on that, but not really I don't think, not sure.
I love R/C helicopters, I think they are awesome even the cruddiest kits are still a good example of some serious engineering for a toy. When I watch my buddy Barbary fly I so wish I could fly like that but I'm still pretty new, maybe on Gallon 10 or 11.
Lately though I've been feeling... non-excited about flying. I can fly FF easily and do loops, etc, although recently my rolls have been turning out VERY badly. The first BAD roll I did(after MANY successful ones) was a non-idle-up and it cost me about $200, the next one I tried after that was okay, and the 3rd one I almost lost it again, the autamaton came out in me and I recovered just FEET above the ground, Barbary can attest to this looked cool, but no recollection of how I recovered it, just kicked in.
Like I said, I love heli's but the drive isn't there to actually fly lately. I plan on going to the rochester FF, to see curtis fly, because I want to see it in person, I have a friend who just got into heli's and I want to help him get going with his stuff and hoping on the side that maybe seeing whqat other people are doing will help rebuild my excitement for the hobby.
I seem to be the type that gets into a hobby, loves it, but then wants to try something else. I did electronics, did some stuff at it, and love it, but no enthusiasm for it although I get enthused on the occasional project such as my heli-lights. I did lasers for a few years, built a couple from scratch, enjoyed it, and I LOVE lasers(so f'ing cool) but I don't really want to continue playing with them, and of course computers I kept growing in those, once I built a 32 processor cluster and ran it for a while, I became completely disinterested in computers.
Right now I am building a camera system for my R60, I am going into work tomorrow to mill out some 'feet' for the camera rig. This will be something new, I'll enjoy it for a while but.. What's wrong? I can't seem to get addicted to a hobby for longer than learning how it works, building it, and then bailing out and doing something else.. This sucks. I love my heli, have a TON of money invested in the hobby(for me 3k is a lot) and I don't know what I'd RATHER be doing, other than flying. It's almost like getting your drivers license, you drive your butt off for 2 years, then you enjoy it, but could live without it...
I've been wanting to do helicopters ever since I started flying planks at age 15 or so. A buddy flew gliders, I wanted power and built a .049 which never flew real great, then some cessna kit which sucked, then a trainer ARF, then a glider, then a F15 .40 size with a .65 Magnum(tons of tail lead) and then a fun-fly barn-door control surfaces type plane, then one of those junk fixed pitched hobby lobby deals(sport 500?) After 13 years I have a heli, which is what I wanted to begin with.
