What's with all the computer support questions today? I'm not complaining but I already get a ton of those in my Linux User Group mailing list and over at slashdot. I keep getting confused about where I am because the topics are starting to overlap.
Why today?

You seem quite perturbed today eSmith.. having a bad day?

I suspect that the reason some people ask computer questions here is because this is the only forum they are accustomed to using and they are aware of computer-savvy people frequenting it.

I haven't seen a single one of them in a section other than "Off Topic", however. So where is the problem?

Ha Ha, I was going to do the same one word answer thing, It came to me as I read the question about p0rn, I thought the same thing "stay off the p0rn sites".

I'm not annoyed at all and am not having a bad day, it would appear that you, IRQ, are. In the fourm on SuSE you told me to CALM DOWN because I got amused at predicting a Debian holy warrior when Linux came up as a topic. Sure, you then pointed out that you didn't recommend it to newbies but that just makes it funnier to admit you had nothing to really add to answer his question but couldn't pass up the chance to tote the vitures of your OS. This is a prime example of the Holy Warrior you describe. Be passively aggressive in pushing your Distro and then go after anyone who disagrees with you.

Please understand that because you failed to inform this new linux user that the OS you mentioned, in a thread where he is asking what he should use, is totally inapproprite for him, I felt I should make it clear for him so he could make an informed choice. For doing this you started right away to defend your OS of choice, again, not helping this guy with his question. What is it your trying to accomplish?

For those that are not familliar with the debian thing it's like Linux = RC heli's and Debian = Century. (Anything by M$ is a planker) That should explain where the hostilities IRC has come from.

Disflamer: I don't own or have an opinion of Century (except for this crappy hummingbird but we're talking heli's here) I think it is possiable that I may own a preditior in the future, all Century Reps in my area are very knowledgable and competant. I have no desire to slam Century at all. Our purpose here is to split tiny hairs over two flavors of the same thing.

oh ya, I also started this thread in the off topic area. I have no problem with any subject that comes up here. It didn't bother me at all that these computer support questions are posted and on the contrary I read them with pleasure. This thread was started because I choose, rather than get into a holy war with you in the SuSE thread, to instead ask a "How's the weather in your area today" kind of question to get some discussion going, at the time I didn't really care about the weather though so I just asked about the support questions.

that OK?

Anyone going flying today? I'm out of work in a few minutes and can't wait to get in the air!

I'm not upset at all, and I apologize if I have mislead anyone Other people were talking about what they used, so I threw my two cents in. There's nothing wrong with a newbie trying to learn an OS that doesn't make everything point and click. Maybe he wants to try something like that? The point is, we don't know.

eSmith, I am very interested in why you think Debian is like Century. Care to explain?

OK sure, The similarity I see between Century and Debian is simply that of all the heli manufacturers, Century Customers are the most loyal to thier brand, at least that's the way it is here... Am I wrong? I also, in the Computer groups I'm in, notice the same fierce loyality in Debian users. This is an admirable quality for both groups, I am not making a derogatory compairison here, They are just both similar that way.

It's not uncommon, rightly or wrongly, for Century Pilots and Non-Century pilots to trip over each other in the fourms and disagree pubicly. I do not favor either side in this, I'm just pointing out that this relationship exists. It also exists this way in the user groups for linux, As you did correctly point out earlier, distro holy wars are very common. Same thing happens, people from one group say something the others don't agree with and whala! holy war!

Which I'm hoping we can agree is not what we are going to do here.

Some others are/were:
Pepsi vs. Coke
IBM vs. Apple
IBM vs. Ameiga
Apple vs. IBM
Microsoft vs. anyone Bill is interested in
Netscape vs. Explorer.
Adlib vs. Soundblaster (anyone remember this?)
Heli's vs. Planks
Superman vs. Batman
John holmes vs. Ron Jeremy
Jason vs. Freddy

Anyone want to start a thread to see how many classice we can come up with? It would be more fun than disagreeing.

If those are your only reasons than I'd suggest you could liken them to Century, Hirobo, MA, JR... every brand has its fierce following of loyal fans I understand what you're trying to say though.
