Scale Model RC Helicopters > Hirobo 30 Lama

I just got a Lama 30 flying. Everything works and it will hover at 5000 ft altitude. It has a new OS 32 and does not have abundant power (compared to a Raptor 30).
Is anybody out there flying a Lama? Has anyone tried the 3-bladed head? Had any problems?
I did a Heliswiss color scheme (HB-XMR) and bought both the interior and exterior kits

Lama

I have the Hirobo Lama 30 too. Mine came with the 3 blade head and the interior and exterior add ons. I live at about 500 feet above sea level and get plenty of power for "scale" flights... The Lama is much heavier then a standard 30 and therefore is more sluggish... But, mine flies great with no problems using Cool Power 30%

As for the 3 blade head, it works great. It autos very well. Just be sure you set the phasing correctly. Other than that, it is pretty much the same.

have a hirobo sea knight which had two sets of three bladed heads and 3 point offset swash , works fine ..

also flew a hirobo h500 w.32 and 50 engine with 3 bladed head , which came from the tandem , very nice flying .. radio signals generally goes up to 3300 ft . I can only see as high as 3k .. 5k is like invisable ..

@ 5k ft , you can not see it ..

Stick a 46 in it

An os 46 FX-H will fit in there quite nicely!! I completely rebuilt mine out of metal. ( all the scale stuff, boom, langing gear, what body work they had.) I used a hattori muffler painted black and it had tons of power with the 11 lb bird. I had the pitch set up at 8 deg for hover at about 1300 rpm. Give it a try!! you wound be disapointed.

Jestrr,
would be interested in how you converted the mechanics to 46 power. What parts do you change? Is the gear ratio altered?

46 change

Its been a while since I've had that heli but if my memory serves me correctly, the mount fits the 46 fine. Might have to shave a little off the inside of the mount to clear the crank case but not totally sure. I do know that the way the spacer fits into the mechanics, you have to cut off the extra aluminum to let the eng block slid up into the mechanics. It should rest and bolt right up against the plastic frames.
as for the rest, it was stock. I did go through a stock clutch and had to replace it. But I was at a fun fly and i used a Raptor clutch if you believe that. I had to put in another liner to get the clearence to fit, as the hirobo clutch is bigger. Not sure what make the liners were but i didnt have to do anything to it. Just JB'd it in and flew to a WINNING scale flight the next day.

Hope this helps. Mostly trial an error!( and in this case it worked!!)

46 in Shuttle

Just done the conversion. Fitted the OS46FXH into a Shuttle. I used a Falcon 46 mount I had lying about and machined 3mm off the width so it fitted the Shuttle frames. Top mounting hole lined up with slots in sideframes, drilled a hole low down to line up with lower hole in the engine mount, as this is a lot lower down than the stock Hirobo mount.

Also machined a Falcon alloy fan to suit the Hirobo clutch centre, so cooling should be OK. Had to trim the plastic cooling shroud near the cylinder head, but everything else was OK.
I also trimmed a bit off the side frame to clear the muffler.
Will let you know how it goes.

fourbits , do you mean viewing from the ground up - .30 size heli? 5k? like to see that , cause the average guy "me" would have a hard time . how did you obtain the altitude measurement , are you using telemetry device on the heli?

what radio are you using , I thought the signal range max was around thousand meters - 3300ft ..

wait a minute I get now , your standing at a 5 thousand ft sea or ground level altitude position, say like up the mountains and you take off .. which explains it now , the jokes on me - hehe ..
