| I hear yaThe XL SE kit comes with an upper thrust bearing. But it also has the split gear. So in upright flight, the thrust bearing can take the vertical loads. But, in inverted, the ONLY thing taking the load is the lower radial bearing. This does not seem to be a problem.
The MA pilots REALLY wring out the Fury with 80/91 engines and the bearings don't seem to be a problem. This is perhaps why MA is not offering thrust bearings anymore.
I am sure the radial mainshaft bearings would last longer with thrust bearings on both of them, but you can buy about 4 radial bearings for the price of just one of the thrust bearings.
I like that there are a few less parts in the fury without the T.B.'s, and the TB's are less messy compared to radial bearings. I suppose that if you never crash and you intended on flying the same heli on the same bearings for years, then yes, get TB's, but in practical terms, you don't need them.
Example: A Bergen Industrial Twin heli carries it's own weight PLUS 25 lbs. It NEEDS TB's on the maishaft and has them. Bergen also put in larger radial bearings (a little thicker). |
