Is this really necessary ?
I've heard people say not to have it on if flying in HH but I just have a piezo gyro and am wanting to know if I can turn it off and if so would it make any difference?

What it does

Revolution mix is a great tool when you know how to use it. It's meant to counter torque during excelleration and deceleration of the main blades. When you add in the mix it will give you better control of your machine. Revo Mixing was great in the use of the older mechanical gyro's. Even some peizo's might benifit from it.

With the advent of some of the newer gyros from Futaba. Revo Mixing is not necassary. It is also recommended by the manufacture of these gyro's to turn it off.

Hi,
You don't use revo mixing in heading hold. You can use it if you are using the gyro in normal mode.

Revo Mixing?

Would it make any difference to have revo available as a backup if the gyro crapped out?-Just curious. I need a lot of experience because I haven't used my peizos yet.----BladeRunner

Maybe not

If your Gyro crapped out it would more than likely be gone on both modes. aand piroing wildlycounter clockwise. You then switch into T hold and set her down as gently as you can. You do practice autos don't you

At least after learing a good solid hover you should try autos from 3 feet, then 5 foot then 6 foot so you know what to do. In the event of a real bad problem you at least have a chance at recovering something when you get down.

Revo Mixing?

Thanks Simmer, actually I have never done an auto, I have had 3-4 minor crashes and one straight in from about 100 ft.! ( Never knew a Nexus could piro that fast! hehehe.) Three due to tail rotor loss(pilot error-not checking the drive wire set screw!) and one puked gyro. I haven't been flying this season at all due to several reasons, I'm just into FFF, my goals are to learn nose in and autos for next season. I have recently acquired G-2 so I will be banging the sticks on that for a couple of months. -------Barry.

Revo mixing when using HH is not a "not recommended" it is a "can not be used" issue.
Head holding Gyros interpret any movemnet from the center as an intention to rotate the tail and they will move the rudder servo any amount necesary even all the way to one end of the travel until the gyro senses a rotational movement.
You can test that by turning you radio on and moving the rudder stick just a bit and holding it there. You'll see the gyro moving the tail servo all the way to one ond of the travel because the gyro has not sensed a rotation so it keeps trying harder and harder.

Revo Mixing

Thanks for that my gyro (Hitec GY 130) doesn't actuall y tell you wheather to have it on or off, but I'll do some experimenting and see what happens.

I haven't had a heading hold gyro fail, but if it did, it probably wouldn't just act like a regular gyro - it would act like no gyro at all, probably like no tail rotor control at all, in fact. In either case, if the gyro fails, the heli will probably pirouette madly - your best bet is going to be an autorotation, revo mix or not.

There are a few web pages out there with diagrams and helpful suggestions for learning autos, a web search should turn them up.
