QuickWorldWide Ep and Wet Fuel Helis > Quick 30 as first heli

I'm going to be getting my first heli soon (a couple of weeks). There is virtually no "support base" in my area so I'm basically on my own, therefore I won't be making my decision based on who's flying what since no one is flying anything.

I like the fact that the Quick 30 is basically all metal, and from what I've read it seems to be very well-made. However, it doesn't seem to have well-written assembly instructions which is a big minus for me, since it would be my first heli. I am, however, fairly good at putting things together.

So my question is, would the Quick 30 be a good first heli (despite the lack of instructions), or should I just steer clear and get a Venture or Caliber?? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi there Capt'n , my first heli was the Kyosho Nexus and although it probably had the best instructions a beginner would need , i found myself needing to upgrade it while i was learning to hover. I had to replace many bushes with bearings . I was suprised how quick these wore out. I now fly a Quick 30 and the pro 60 and can highly recommend the 30 learner too anyone. It is designed to go the distance without parts wearing out .The only upgrades i put on mine is carbon blades, metal horizontal fin mount and thrust bearings in the main blade holders for 3D flying.I believe if you take your time with the build and use common sense, you should have no worries. The one thing i highly recommend is get an experienced pilot to look over the machine for you. Good luck and i hope to hear how you get on! Regards Paul.

Hi CaptnJamesKirk,

I also brought learner as my first heli... I agree the instrucation isn't to clear at all for a beginner but I will give you some tips I found, in the CD there are instrucation for both learner and pro version, so what I did was reading the learner version and igonr the pro version and that was a disaster in my building and trimming stage.

tips
1) build your heli by reading learner version.
2) trim your heli by reading pro version, coz they left out some contents in learner version. Always refer to pro instruction if you have any problems at any stage.
3) If you do refer to those version to build up your heli then you can't go wrong.
4) always read from previous forum posts on "how to..."

By the way I am not regrated I brought QUICK, as matter in fact I've ordered quick pro 50 and should be arrive by next tuesday. hehehehe.. can't wait till it arrive.

QUICK is the only choice!!!

Quick Learner

The Quick Learner is a great heli with most of the upgrades that Raptor guys do, already on it. It goes together well, but you are right, the instructions could be a little clearer.

I would recomend it to you with no reservations. If I can help, let me know.

Thanks for the input. Interestingly, I got a couple of PM's indicating Quick as NOT the best 1st heli (I guess they didn't want to take the heat in this Quick forum).

I'm still interested in Quick, and may very well get one as a 2nd heli, but I think I will be better off with an ARF model the first time around. This says more about my confidence in my own building skills than it does about Quick!

ARF as a first heli

That's not a bad choice either. There's only one thing that you can count on is that there are many more opinions about what is the best heli to start with than there are helis to fly!

The best advice that ANYONE can give you is try to find a circle of "friends" so to speak of people that will help you with advice. Most of the guys that bash other helis and companies are not the ones to go to for advice. Others, some of whom have even been critical of Quick, will give you good advice and try to help.

I started on a Raptor 30 and do not regret it at all. I don't fly Raptors any more as I like the helis that I am flying better.

I know that you said that there is not support base for you. If you can't latch on to somebody local, then try to find people on here that will help you, and fly what they fly. This way, you will always have someone to ask questions.

If I can be of help, just PM me and I will send you my number.

Jim!
