Lots of people are. Just do a search in the forum for LiPo. I have read just about every post concerning LiPo's and I take it the average flight time is at least 20 minutes with a 2 cell pack.

I just received mine so I have not had a chance to try them yet. I ordered two from lightflight.com and got a free meter and free shipping! Only took a couple of days to get here.

I get about 24 in hover and the other day I got 27 in slow forward flight. Could have gone longer but the landing would have not been fun. After about 20-24 minutes there is not much left for hovering, but forward flight takes less power so you can still be flying and when you transition into a hover, you drop like a rock!

The E-Techs are the way to go. The Kokam 1020's will work but will not take abuse nearly as well as the E-Techs, nor will they perform as well. Still another option though. I don't want to knock anyone who is using them.

There are some new cells from Thunder POwer coming out that I hope to give a shot. If they work as well as first reports, they should be even better than the E-Techs.

Exciting times we live in fellas!

Ya, Kokam's will handle up to 3 amps and Etec's will handle up to 6 amps, assuming a 2S configuration. But I am sure I saw new inproved Kokams somewhere. Or, I could be losing it

I am glad you mentioned the thing about hovering when the batteries get low. I did not think about that.

BTW, I saw the pics of your son holding your heli with the new canopy, and the canopy looks great! Looks like your son likes it too...LoL Thanks Steve.

Do you have a link to lightflight.com? I can't seem to find them. Thanks.

Sorrry about that. Here is the link:

If you want the free meter, make sure you fill in the "how did you hear about us" when you order. The meter is worth getting, it even has a backlit display that you can switch on/off.

I ordered two of the 1200-2S. They are $5.00 more each, but are made a little bit better. You will see when you get to the website.

Thanks!

Just one more question. I am very new to the electrics Are you using one pack at a time, or both at the same time? Thanks.

I am new too So I am passing on what I have learned from much more experienced people.

Anyway, some people order 2S2P batteries to help balance the heli, and I am sure LightFlight will make it if you ask. Most people use one pack at a time. Some add some weight to compensate for the tail heavy syndrome that happens when using a LiPo. It gets worse when using a lighter motor. I was told that if I need to wire the batteries together, to make sure I do not short them. When cutting the wire, cut one at a time because if you cut both of them at the same time, it will cause a short a may destroy the battery. Also make sure the batteries are fully charged when connecting them, then after they are connected charge again to make sure they are equalized.

But look at it this way (like I do). One 2S LiPo is just less than half the weight of the birdseed, yet has double the amperage and at least three times the run time when flying. I read somewhere that for every gram added to this heli, you will lose about 6 seconds of flight time. I think I got that right, but when I read it I was not bothered by it. So I will try one battery at a time first and see what happens. I hope to be able to try them over the weekend.

There are other places that sell them. Search the forums for LiPo

LightFlight batteries have packs that are built better, but they cost more. I think the free multimeter makes up for the difference.

BTW, I finally have them hooked up to the heli and they are working great!

Bishop Power Products usuall has them with great service. Also has lipoly chargers in stock - I have the SC2 dual output and it is great. Can charge 2 packs at the same time.

FWIW - I flew a 7 cell AAA pack today for the first time in months. Yuck! The weight gain was very noticable - seemed like trying to fly a watermellon in comparison to 2 cell 1200 e-tech lipoly.

I can't see going back.

Hey Steve,
So how do you like the SC2? I did not know they were avilable. I ordered a "cheap" charger. The SC2 looks great and will support much higher current LiPo's which will be nice for when I get a bigger heli

I really like it. It is a pretty simple charger but really has more features than a lot of chargers at twice the price. Jumpers to set the charge current or a dial to adjust. Bargraph displays to show how much charging is left. Troy at BPP is working on manufacturing the chargers as a side job and the popularity of the charger has made the backlog grow. If you can wait, it is worth it. If not, then he has other chargers that work.

I plan to get into 3S3P and 3S4P packs so I need the capacity also.

I can wait, I agree it is worth the wait. I am going to go ahead and preorder. I might get lucky and get it this month. At that price it can not be beat and you never know.....
