Set up a new Hummingbird
GWS R-4P Receiver
Century Pizeo Gyro
Hitech Servos
CNE052 Mixer
720mah NIMH Battery
Got the complete set up for <$250
I am running it on a Futaba 9CHP radio under the Acro mode.

Took me 1 battery charge to get the balance and trim set up. IMO the heli needs to be balanced level not even a little nose heavy as the effect is that you always need to fight it trying to go forward all the time.
On the 2nd charge I got into sustained hovers about 4' high, once the ground effect is broken then the hover is more stable "way cool".I am quite impressed in the performance of the machine with the exception of the response on cyclic control. If the heli begins to stray or jump in a direction the input command is not agressive enough to counteract the movement immediately. I am not sure that the swashplate system is designed well enough. I have found a published modification to the swashplate by removing the black guide tube inside the swash plate and installing a 1/8" collar instead to hold the main shaft in place. If the comments are correct this should greatly improve the cyclic control and the performance will be very good. My 720 mah nimh pack lasts only about 5 minutes in hover so I will try and switch over to lithium poly 2 cell 1200mah, mounting will be a little tricky. Has anyone installed the battery in a HB? would love to see some photos of the install location and effect on CG.

Mounting is easy mate, just get some longer carbon rod cut a flat peice of retangular plastic lay it on top of the excess at the front. Then neatly tape it down with glass fibre tape, and stick sticky velcro under and also on the cell. I used a transparent and fairly thin plastic I bought from my LHS. I will upload a photo onto my gallery next monday if there is not one there all ready

WIth just a slight bit of trimming on the chin, the 2S E-Tech will fit into the canopy with a simply rubber band supporting the rear. Gets the C.G. right on and the battery is easily removed. In a crash, it also removes itself.

FWIW - removing the tube did not help cyclic response on mine to any noticable extent. It did allow for greater movement though. The easiest (and best in my opinion) thing to do for cyclic response is to mount hornet fixed pitch blades and a faster motor or larger pinion. The much increased head speed helps it acheive a much more stable hover as well as increasing cyclic response.

Good luck!

Not a clue

I called Century to get information on what the current draw is between the 2 motors, all I got was HUH? I asked them about Lipoly batteries and they said as long as it is 8.4V it will work OK, when I told them that Lipoly is 7.4 V he said "Oh that will never work" ..not a clue!

I should have some feedback on both the larger motor and the Li poly batteries in the very near future.

I got the money worth out of mine on the first day that I flew it.

Lipoly in Hummingbird

Well I installed the 1200mah 7.4v lipoly battery in my Hb. I removed both of the old bird seed battery trays. I then glued a very thin piece of lexan to the front two rails, put the battery on top and straped it there with a tie wrap. I just came in from running the heli, up and down for 12 minutes and still have full power. Actually I got tired of flying and neded to rest. I got this thing to hover hands off, but I learned one thing. It hates a breeze the slightest breeze blows it around like a napkin.
One more thing, my Triton sucks found out it doesn't charge lithium properly, they want me to send it back for a "software upgrade" they hope! they can fix it. Geez since they advertise for lithion and lithpoky they better be able to fix it!!! The Kokam 1200 2 cell is a great way to go!
