Gasser Model RC Helicopters > G26 Heli Conversion Vibrations

This may stir up a hornet's nest but...

I have first-hand information that Zenoah never intended to make a G26 version for helicopters. They acknowledged that a G26 aircraft cylinder/piston could be used on the G231 but offered no warranty onany parts if this were done. Presumably that's why I've seen the reports on the site about bad warranty policy. It indicates that any G26 engines on the market are not truly PUH models. Is there any first hand evidence to contradict this?

I have secondhand information, and thus unreliable, that the reason why Zenoah adopted this G26 policy was because early tests had revealed excessive vibration in a heli installation. I've read that several people are using G26 engines in helis. Are these pukka PUH or are they converted aircraft versions? Is there any truth in this problem of vibration? Ifanybody is running G26 with no vibration problem, is this an out-of-the-box experience or have you done some mods? If so can you enlighten us?

In Europe we have a disparate Zenoah distribution system with each discipline handled by different distributors. Unfortunately, the helis drew the short straw. There is a lot of confusion and misinformation over here and most is generated by a lack of interest on the part of the distributor.

There are rumours that Zenoah have reviewed their policy not to supply G26 heli versions and that these may emerge around September. Has anybody got any FIRSTHAND info because rumours are a waste of time.

This topic could be an opportunity to waylay some of the confusion that exists over here in Europe.

Thanks

PS Has anybody got some advice about what surface temperatures are acceptable on the Zenoah's. Location is also important.

I´m one of these 26cc user. To be righ I own a G230RC and after a incredible problem with I it toke the the decision to change the piston and cylinder to the 26cc upgrading.
A) Zenoah Japan tolds me they will never apply any warranty over a G230RC engine used to power any Heli because it´s designed to be used in Rc car (that´s the reason of the RC sign).
B) Most of the biggest RC Heli manufacturers use this engine to power his Helis and if you look at the latest VARIO brochure they added the 26cc upgrading on it.¿¿?? The apply his own guarantee over them.
Same with some Zenoah europ dealers.
C) The best rpm range for these engines to be used with helis must be close to its max tork point and that means around 10500 rpm. The best power point is around 14000 but imo what zenoah tries to say is that this engine can achieve this power but not to keep it for a long time or it will died shortly. (The 1/5 Rc cars hold only the max rpm for short time periods)
D)The 26cc upgrading will help you to get more power where you need it, close to the max tork point, so you dont need to run higher rpms to achieve the desired power. At 10500 rpm I can´t notice any vibrations difference but a lot of power difference on my camera ship (I can lift the same weigh at 60% thr as I can do with the old engine at full power).
E) About temperature range, I took the reading from one of the holes you can see on a G230RC close to the exhaust at the cylinder base and always from the same place. In winter, after a 3 min hovering I can read 98ºC (having a 10-15ºC weather temp) and now, I can read 107ºC after the same test but at 30-35ºC weather temp. (readings comes from a simple RC car thermometer and not from a Infra red one You must run the engine with the needles as open as you can to allow the fuel help refreshing the engine but the fan makes a brilliant job.
My heli weighs 20lbs without fuel and that must have any influence in the temp readings increasing it more than normal.

Hope it helps a little
