I posted this under Engines also but I wasn't sure how many people would see it in that forum so I will put it here also, hope no one minds...

Can I get some impressions of the Hanson modified G23 please. I am getting ready to buy a Vario Benzin kit for a S-70A Firehawk project that I will be building over this coming winter. I want to make sure that I have enough power but not to much that it will damage my mechanics.

benzin

the vario mechanics use the rc230 engine which has the drive coming out the bottom to a belt that goes to a shaft up to the main gear and tail gear. the "nornal" g-23 comes out the top and will not fit in the benzin mechanics. it is feasible to modify the g-23, but i doubt the effort would be worthwhile.

the rc230 puts out a lot of power. it should be enough for you fuse. there are mods available for the rc230 if you feel more power is needed.

Dan: after having that engine in a 23 plus pound Vario Dauphin (including a power hungry finestron tail drive) I think you are gonna be just fine with the RC 230. One thing about the hanson modded motor I have in my gasser.......it definately has a harder pull when starting. On the order of 2-3 X as much. Kinda hard on a scale ship pulling that kind of force against the landing gear.
