I have delayed putting the new 231 in my heli because I had made so many changes on my heli lately including a all metal head, and new tail rotor trans mission and control...What a difference metal makes
Anyway, since all of my testing has been with the older PUH G23, I desided to put the 643 on the g23....
My conclusion was its better than the 603..I even had to add more pitch.. Please remember though, that the rotor system is much more efficient, and makes a big difference....
If you got a 603 for your old engine, you didn't waste money, because the difference is not worth the change...But, if you considering getting a new carb, then the 643 is the one to get... I would suspect the carb would show the same increase on the G2D series as well
I'm just putting this out there for those that just don't want to get the new engines yet...
I done this because someone had ask about this, and because I felt since I know this older engine so well, I could see the change easy...
With this said, I have just about made this stock engine as good as it gets, and will have a better comparison subject when I do put the 231 in sometime next week, hopefully

Bill,

Thanks! I was looking for this sort of information.

Would you check this thread and see what you think?

http://runryder.com/helicopter/t49811p1/

I'm trying to find out from Walbro what difference there is between the 603 and 643. They seem to think the one to go with may be the 645. Instead of repeating the information here, please see my other thread about carbs.

Also, does the 643 have both a primber bulb and a choke?

In my case, this is a completely stock G230PUH.

Just trying to do my homework! Thanks!
Rich

The difference between the 603 and 643 is:

603 has choke, and larger butterfly shaft with bulb

643 has no choke, smoother ventura design smaller butterfly shaft, but same dia plate with bulb

I've tuned the carb on the G26, but can't remember the number it used..The one I have has been crashed, I'm fixing it, and it didn't come with the carb

The other numbers you mention may be for the G26, if so, they may have bigger orifices, and might be to big for the PUH...
With this said, I know the 603, and the 643 run good on the puh..The 643 makes the puh even smoother to me...
My advice would be to get the 643...
All these new carbs are new to me too, it can get confusing....We'll all learn more with time

Thanks Bill for your thoughts.

I'm leaning towards the 644 as that is supposed to be the same as the 643 but has the built in choke.

But this is good backup to my original theory "why go with the older 603 if Zenoah is using the 643, it must be better suited".

Thanks for your testing, you're confirming the research!
