Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Question about YS ST-1 H engine...

Hi Guys, I have a question about this YS engine. I have it in my Hurricane, I have never run it, the engine is new, only been run very little. When I got it I did not get the correct YS check valve with it, I bought a Dubro check valve. I have installed it in the exact distance YS recommends from the back plate, it is pressurizing the tank , I think to much, you can see the tank swell after a few seconds of running. My problem is, the engine will not run unless I turn the mixture screw almost all the way in, leaving it out 1/2-3/4 turn, and it doesn't run well. When I shut the engine off, the fuel runs out of the carb until the pressure is gone in the tank. It is flooding, I suspect when it is running too. I took the regulator apart, looked for a bad diaphram or dirt, didn't find anything that looked suspucious, I've never had one of these engines, I'm usually an OS guy. Could my problem be the Dubro check valve, I figuired pressure was pressure; maybe the YS valve somehow does not allow as much pressure to build up in the tank? Any ideas?.....Coop

Coop, get a YS 0405 check valve, it works better than the original. Some swelling of the tank is normal, but it shouldn't be severe. If you don't bleed the pressure off after a run, it can cause the some fuel to be pushed though the carb, enough to flood the engine while it is setting. It does sound like you are getting to much pressure, I just checked one of my ST-1's and the hover needle is around two turns open.

I'd try a YS check valve. The valve determines the amount of pressure in the fuel tank, and it kinda sounds like your dubro valve is over-pressurizing the tank. I'm pretty sure that alone would explain the needle valve setting, the fuel mess, and the flooding.

sounds like something is clogged .. I been using it for many years .. and you should always use the ys check valve .. around 1 3/4 for the main needle after it's broken in .. use a pressure regular with a T to see if the pressures are correct around 4lbs low and 7+ lbs during hover .. if you have no pressure then other things to look at .. diaphram componants in the regulator .. thee engines run very well .. st1, st2 etc.. ringed , or the 45 abc versions ..
