Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Gassers are they louder that 60 size ?

I was just wondering how noisey gassers are compared to a 60 size. I assume you are using a good muffler. Is the stock muffler that comes with the bergen very good ?

Would 9202's be good enough for a gasser?

Thanks

Gassers are not as loud as a 60. Same as a good lawn trimmer.

About the same but very different

I fly an X-cell gasser with an MA muffler. It is just as quiet as any 60 size heli engine with a good Hatori type muffler. Everyone who has commented on the sound difference said that the deeper gasser sound is much more pleasant than the frantic high pitch tone from a 60 nitro motor.

The Y.S. 80 in my Fury Extreme is much quieter than either the gasser or O.S. Max 61 WC that was in the X-Cell ST that I used to own. In fact I hear more gear whine and blade music from the Fury than exhaust sound!

I use 9202's in my gasser and even my Fury Extreme. They have worked very well.

did you say INTAKE? You mean out the carb barrel? I never even considered that before.

I myself really like the sound of my gas motor G23 a lot more than my OS50. Its like a Harley vs Honda.

Intake silencer is mandatory in Kart racing here.
"intake roar" makes up a fair part of the noise emitted from an engine.

Keep in mind the air intake is not constant it is pulsing in and reflecting a wave out, with engine speed.

Intake Roar

I used to drive a really pumped up 1970 Camaro (400+ horsepower). When I floored it and opened all four barrels of the Holley double pumper, the intake roar coming from under the hood would almost equal the thunder from the Flowmaster mufflers! It's a really awesome sound.

It certainly makes sense that a lot of noise could come from there.. I just hadn't thought about it.

I suspect that the K&N air filter on mine helps keep the intake noise down.

I was thinking in comparison to those who run NO airfilter. I didn't percieve a big change in noise when I switched from the stock airbox to the K&N although, I ran stock last fall and K&N this spring so I ain't sure
