no offense but i think that a turbine helicopter is mainly a backup for bragging rights (they sound nice though )

While that may be true for some folks, I did it for me - not to impress anyone. I just love the idea of flying a real, live turbine powered a heli. You just can't beat the sound, smell and smoothness of a turbine ship. In fact, if I had my way, I'd fly it solo most of the time.

Turbine Helos

Would like to buy a scale turbine helo, but the choices seem limited in USA.
Soon as I get back from military duty gonna try Vario in California, no custom builders in Arizona.

I agree with you Hirobo Flyer

What a stupid post to start

Shall we all stick to two stroke engines Then there will be no advancement in our hobby

In my opinion I think the turbine heli is the best thing to come along in our hobby since the piezo gyro. The people that are working to produce these models are pioneers and in the begenning of this new era of models many people were very skeptical of the fact of the turbine heli concept but as the technology of these models progresses like the new century heli that is a model made from the ground up as a turbine heli not a two stroke model retrofitted with a turbine engine many people will come around. In the future I see a new class of models to fly competition 3d at many events around the world,it just takes a different class of people to have the gumption to fly them.chris

if your gonna go.....go all out!

Seems like they're absolutely the best thing going for scale, not so good for 3d, give them a few years to advance though.

Crater--I don't really see why you posted this either.

Turbines Prices

The price is the killer for turbines. If the price comes down to a 2000-2500 US for heli and turbine then I think people will jump. Until then people will just stick to the glow and gasers. Maybe Century will bring out it Predator Turbine at a price range that will start the process of price reduction.

i'm not jealous i just think that if your just going to fly around in circles 24/7 it will get kind of old sooner or later
if you want to impress me then send me a video of a large scale turbine doing 3d like a fury

Bob Johnson was flying some interesting aerobatics with a turbine at Sandown a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't have a video camera with me.

Give me the money, and I'd get a turbine powered Huey, got to be the ultimate buzz to fly that, and no 3D with that one, thank you!

food for thought

hi im rick,
i fly with one hand and a mouthpiece, i machine all my own parts on lathe and mill, i fly 3d with nitro and gas,, scale flybarless heads--both left and right hand rotation, im a metal fabricator, certified welder, .i have a computer science and electronic eng deg.--------retired veteran----small business owner---painter--ride motorcycles--i owned a turbine, and yes i did 3d with it, but it doesnt 3d like a fury cuz its heavy but it will do it. a turbine is not for 3d whoever told you that is wack, its not setup or designed for 3d..there fore stick with the fury.. or step up to a 3dnt===this is a machine and a half..
and i do it all with one hand

regards rick

Gotta disagree with you there Rick!

I dont care what is making the blades go round, if they are going round fast enough and they are big enough to have the right energy in the disk, you can do 3D with it. The heli you tried, the Jetcat, had a headspeed of 1250 rpm and on 800mm blades the head did not have the energy to impart the correct authority to do 3D.

My SPS is turning 800mm blades at 1650 rpm and its just as agile as any Fury. In the hands of a skilled pilot like Bob Johnston I doubt if there is any maneuver it cant do that a Fury can.

Put it another way, the base heli is a Robbe Cuatro. The turbine version will be able to do everything the 90 powered version will.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty impressed with the Century Predator Turbine flight on Century's site. Looked to me like it will 3D pretty easily.
check it out, see what you think.

take care
