| I have a Century/FEDA HB that I have been really enjoying for a while now. Upgraded early on to a 280bb motor that I have had absolutely zero problems with. Tried one of my older 16 turn Astro 010 motors but just would not cut it on 2 e-tec 1200mah Lipoly cells.
Today, I god an RZ350/Castle Creations Phoenix 10 combo. I went with the RZ350 instead of the heli version because it has a higher Kv (RPM/Volt) and I eventually want to go with a collective machine with a good head speed. I was a bit apprehensive to say the least, as I had zero reports of how this motor would work in this heli (or any other for that matter). This motor is tiny - smaller and lighter than either the Astro 010 or Hacker B20S.
I have only had one flight indoors (it too dark to go outside) but I can say that I have more power than the stock tail and a HH gyro can keep up with now. Power is instant, the Phoenix 10 is soooo smooth. Before with separates or the Hummingboard, I seemed to always be between a descending and climbing. With the P-10 it makes a world of difference.
Flew several 5 minute hovers and slow forward flight and the motor does get warm - but expect it from a brushless as the windings are against the outer case. The battery stayed cool throughout all flights so I can assume that I am using a bit less power then the 280bb which means I am putting more at the rotor where it matters.
I am using an 8-tooth pinion and would not really want to go larger. If the weather cooperates tomorrow, I will get a lot of stick time in and let those interested know how it goes.
Oh yeah, I'm jazzed!
The downside seems to be the cogging of the motor - when you chop throttle the tail swings a good bit. That and the torque when throwing the juice at it. I may make a longer tail boom and see how that goes.
