I do understand typos and an occassional misspelling, but some of the posts I've seen lately are really very poorly done. Even if you don't have spell-check available, at least proof read what you write. I know a lot of guys say things like "You get my drift," " I can't be bothered to check this," and usually I do understand the post but, to tell the truth, I question the intelligence of some of these writers. Since we only have your writing to judge you by, if you do a poor job, you may be judged accordingly.

On a dog sled team, if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.

yep

you have to remember, a lot of the people on this forum have english as a second or third language. bear with them. however if their address is in the US i usually take what is said with a "grain of salt" Have a good day. Ron

Please cancel my clearance, I have the field in sight.

Stand by, Gordie.

When they get to work tomorrow, all these apparent semi-literate types you're talking to will blast you for criticising their God-given right to make it difficult for the rest of us to read/understand their posts.

FWIW, I agree with you 100%. And to save several folks from writing THIS advice, we already don't read the ones that look like they were done by a six year old.

Say, aren't you a math teacher? Teach some English too, eh? Or are you just trying to liven up a dull Sunday afternoon???

Anyway, get your nomex on. There are a LOT of folks out there who get their feelings hurt every time this subject comes up...

I'll jump in on this one, by suggesting that everyone who doesn't allready know how to spell the following words, does so now

G O V E R N O R
It's not "govenor" or "guvener"

D E F I N I T E L Y
It's not "definately" or "defintly"

I guess there will always be people more concerned with how its said than with what is said. (read that first go Ha)

I guess I don't really care if the spelling is off here and there, provided that the post is intelligible. Most of the time it's not to hard to decipher the misspelled words, but what makes posts really hard to understand is the sometime pi$$-poor usage and grammar. It also makes it hard when people write exacty as they would speak, dialect, accent and slang included.

I guess my real pet-peeve is the improper use of common contractions or like sounding words. Some common examples include:

"There" (referring to existence or location), when they should use "their" (possession or ownership) or "they're" (short for "they are").

I know it sounds minor, but it is one thing that drives me nuts. I guess they don't cover that in our wonderfully tolerant-of-failure public schools anymore.

Hey Gordie,
Well i can tell you why my spelling and grammer is not to par, My pre-college education was in Florida and in college, engineering students only have to take 2 language classes. It is really unfortunate.

Wouldn't americans have a large problem with that as I think their english is now taught to be written as spoken?
I certainly make enough mistakes as this is my 2nd language but I do agree with the guys.
Now in school the children do not learn the elementariness.
