Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Get Pumped?!

When I use to fly pattern, I would always add a pump to engines (like Rossi's) that didn't already have them. Two things happened.

1.) I always got increased RPM. Noticable RPM!
2.) Very consistent engine runs. I would never have to touch the neadle all summer on the 2 strokes.

I'm thinking about doing this to my OS 46, which gives me inconsistent motor runs.

Has anyone done this to there Heli motor? If so, what was the outcome?

Thanks

I think the biggest problem is the added complexity. The name of the game is not the most power but the most "managable" power. The "muffler pressure" is nearly "pilot" proof and if the mixture is rich enough the slight change from full to empty is unnoticable. If I was running 5% or FAI on a tuned pipe then constant pressure would be the ticket.

I dunno, in my case the fuel pressure change from full to empty has always been noticable with OS engines. Not with YS though, but they're pumped. I have always solved the fuel pressure change problem wtih uniflow plumbing... never tried adding a pump but it might be an even better solution.

The YS pump system isn't a significant reliability problem, seems to me that something like the Perry pump setup could potentially be just as good. The power of a piped OS with the advantages of the YS pressure system would be the best of both worlds.

I don't know of anyone who has tried it, but I'm getting tempted.

I have had a Perry pump on an old 60 OS Aero engine that was installed in a semiscale Gazelle.
It helped with the constant very noticable mixture change from full to empty.

I didn't have much luck with the Perry pumps on the 60 size engines. Volume was not enough. I ended up using the Cline pump system. It's excellent! If I try it on the 46, that's what I'll use.
