It's called a Corona and it makes an excellent first heli. They are indeed very rugged.

I had the LMH 100 glow powered heli years ago and it was great. I bounced it off the garage a bunch, half the time it would still be running when I picked it up, I'd just snap the blades back down into position and look it over and take off flying again. It also made several trips to the ground from high up do to engine failure.

As for the electric LMH Corona, I'd say its probably the only one you'll find that you can crash with little to no damage, most of the high dollar electrics are very precise machines and don't like garages much less the the ground. The down side is the Corona is a fixed pitch helicopter and has a limited range of flight maneuvers, but for hovering around in your back yard it would be great.

Main shafts are 5/32" spring steel. If you have a dremel you can make replacements cheap. Also, the skids are held on by zip ties. They are supposed to depart on impact.

Boom strikes seem to be their only vice, however, you just straighten the blades/boom and fly again.

Buy one of these and learn to hover on it. You will save a lot of money.

I forgot to mention the best remedy for boom strikes, you have to ruin one boom first though. Take and old boom cut a piece about 4 inches long and the cut a slot in it length wise, spread it apart a bit and slide it over the new boom and position it where the blades hit the boom in a boom strike. I did this and never had to bend or replace another boom due to boom strikes.

The Corona is quite a bit heavier (and larger) than the glow version. I have experience with both and the Corona seemed to be more easily damaged.

I don't think I ever spent more than $15 repairing my LMH-110, but the Corona has a tendency to add up if you crash it a lot.

FWIW: The designer of the Lite Machines helicopters has made it very clear that there are no plans for a collective pitch version. He has some valid arguements for this decision, but I don't entirely agree with it. If you spend a little time searching, there are resources on the web for making your own conversion.

BOOM STRIKE FIX

I found the best way to preserve the tail boom and blades on the corona is to simply tape a 2-4 inch piece of 1/4 inch square balsa on the left side of the boom where the blades would strike. The balsa absorbes the energy by crushing and leaves both the blades and boom unscathed. The mod adds little weight and lasts until you think it looks too banged up at which time you can replace the balsa or rotate it to a fresh side. This really works great.
