e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > T-REX 500 Yet another which servo thread

I know this has been brought up quite a few times and I know which servo people think are the best, but that is not the aim of this thread. I have searched, before anyone suggests that I do, and have not come to a conclusion. Since I am in Rip Off Britain we have to pay stupid prices for certain items, and servos are one of them. A 9650 in the uk is over £50 or somewhere around the $100 mark. I do not think it is worth my while spending that amount of money on servos. So I am more interested in the lower end of the market namely the Hitec 5245mg's or the Aligh 510's. I know a lot of people have the Hitecs and a number of them experienced problems with cases breaking and slopiness. But I would like opinions from anyone who has purchased either the Hitec's or the Align's recently to see if things have improved. These two sevos are nearer to the $50 price tag and I think that is more reasonable. By the way JR z3650's don't even exist in the UK, and other JR's are more expensive than the futaba's.

So in short which one would you buy now, Hitec or Align?

Thanks for the help,
Craig.

You can get the DS 3500 or 9650/9257 servos for £40 or thereabouts and from reputable sources in the UK. Personally I never skimp on electronics but appreciate the cost adds up.

5245 mg on my Trex 500, and it flies and feels great. Upto now about 30 flights and zero probs. They are programmable and give good speed and torque. There may be better servo's on the market, but they seem twice the price for not a great deal of extra performance. You may not even notice the difference unless you are another Jason Krause.

Good luck

Hey Supa, can't you just buy from a vendor in the states like espritmodel or someone else that does international sales? It seems to me you'd be getting a deal on everything from an American vendor since the exchange rate is in your favor. Shipping would cost a little more and I guess it'd take a few extra days to ship but I figure you could save quite a bit in the long run. Or is there something I don't know about when it comes to buying from over here for you guys. Just a thought.

I've bought stuff from the US before, it can work out cheaper but not if you get stuffed for the customs fees. Cyberheli is the exception tho (but they're not in the US)

I picked up my 5245 at £21:00 each, if I bought all 3 at once. The states may be a bit cheaper but not when you add custom fees and import duty, then drop you pants once more for the handling fee and then Gordon browns tip on top of it all.

Good luck

I use the 9650's. To really max out the performance of your servos you should look into a separate regulator and flight pack. I’m using a small TP 910 ProLite and a Novak 6v regulator. I have noticed a significant improvement to how crisp the servos feel in the air.

I'm flying 5245's for over a month now. Well over 100 flights and no problems.

I also just put 5625's in a 600 and those are working out great, too.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I did think of ordering overseas, but like it has already been said, this only works out cheaper if you don't get stung on import duty. It's also a lot more likely to happen if items were bought in the USA.

Hey Busher where the hell did you get 5245's for £21? PM me if this is going to break forum rules.

Cheers.

The Align servos are pretty much the same specs as 9650/9257 but almost half the price! I am using the tail servo version 520's I believe, on cyclic. I have lots of flights on mine and they are awesome! Fast-Lad sell them which is just down the road from you!

I used 9650s in mine but had a couple of minor issues...

1) The servo leads are relatively short (designed for RC car use) and I had to extend them in order to get the installation as I wanted it.

2) My particular servos had a small amount of play on the output spine/control horn. This can easily be fixed, see:

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t459371p1/

for further details.

Other than the above they are excellent servos!

One plus big point, I brought them from one Hong Kong (via e-Bay) for £19 a servo, not a bad price!
