I am considering getting a 500 and would like to know what you guys are using. How is the stock setup? And if you dont like it, then what are you using? What motor/esc combo and what servos etc. Thanks.

Did he crash? Dang I missed it!

Motor: scorpion 1400kv w/ 14t pinion (hs: 2725)
ESC: cc80 w/cc switching bec
Cyclic Servos: JR 3650
Gyro: Spartan w/ 9257
Paddles: white with 4 of 5 ribs cut out
Tail Blades: new white ones (longer than stock tail blades)
Main Blades: Align 425D

This is much stronger then the stock setup and does not bog at all. I get 4 min of 3d on a 3000mah pack.

The scorpion 1400 kills your batteries. I'd go with the 1600. But other than that as far as 6s setups are concerned, you covered pretty much everything. Here is my setup:

Jazz 55
Scorpion 1600
Futaba 9257's w/mks 9660 metal gears
Spartan
V-blades
PPRC 2500 30c packs

Thanks for the info

I was really hoping for around 5 to 6 minutes of flight time? But those seem like good setups. I am debating. I have a 600N that I love but just might need to down size for cost of repairs .

you can easily get 6+ minutes if you are flying light 3D.

Im using 6S 3000, scorpion 1600kv and getting 6:30 of flight time, which i could push to 8min if i pleased. I do sport and light 3D.

My blade mCX can outfly your Aurora!! (in a 1' x 1' x 1' box) :)

I am running cc80,Medusa BEC, Neu 1706H 1.5Y ( which will be avalible in the next few weeks). Ino-lab Cyclic. 611 for the tail.425D blades, but i like the orignal 425s better.TT tail with carbon tail blades. full collective aluminum frames. I get 4 minutes of hard 3D with the 1706. I used to get 3 minutes with the scorpion 1400 leaving the lipos lower voltage and alot hotter then the Neu after 4 minutes. If i wanted to leave the voltage the same then i can get around 1:45 longer flight time. Motor comming down at 105F.
Useing Fullymax 2500 25c lipos.

Trex 500 SA Aluminum frame CC80,Ino-lab servos, 611, +15.5-15.5 pitch.

Dieselracer, that sounds like a great setup. Thanks for the info. I had one of the neu motors in my 600e and loved it.

What kind of batteries are you referring to? I know several that run the 1400 in a 500 with no complaints on battery abuse, all are running outrage or desire power however which can deliver and take the amp draw.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

I am running Desire cells (PPRC). What I mean by battery abuse is the very short flight times and the heat of the battery, esc, and motor. I know the components can take it I just feel much more comfortable with the 1600 and know that things are going to last longer.

The stock setup on Outrage XP30 packs has more than enough power.

I totally agree, that's why I'm running the 1600 instead of the 1400. I may try a 14t pinion though just for kicks and giggles

Why is the 1400kv worse on batteries then the 1600kv?

CF or GF?

Thanks for all the info on the setups. I am considering a T-Rex 500. I think I like the silver color of the glass fiber frames. Is there a big advantage in the CF frame? Currently, I just hover and very basic FF. Still learning the orientations, but I am here to stay (been a hobbyist for a while) and have a significant investment in the hobby. I am not afraid to buy quality. I actually play a little more on very stable helis. I have a Quick EP8 which is a 500 size machine and it is unbelievably stable. I try more with it than my T-Rex 450 because it is smaller and much too quick for the unprepared. How stable is the T-Rex 500? Does the stock setup need to be replaced immediately? Is it worth buying the kit without the stock setup? Also, how is: the soft start on the ESC, the BEC, and the governor? I think I am pretty spoiled because my helicopters have Jazz ESCs. I LOVE them. The soft start is great. Also, the governors are amazing. Not to sure I like the Castle Creation ESCs. I have not had one in a while and I probably need to update the software on my CC35. I have the Castle link, but the ESC would run so hot it melted the shrinkwrap so I did research and replaced it with the Jazz. Are they better now? Sorry for the long post, but thanks in advance.

As far as sheer power, I prefer the 1400 over the 1600. I own both. The 1600 is a little better than the stock motor and runs cooler than the 1400. However, the 1400 has noticably more power. I run around 2800-2900 on each motor.

I didn't see a 500 but I saw an HDX 500 or other TRex 500 clone with a TRex 500 canopy. Is this the one you're talking about?
