e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > T-REX 450 450 belt running off tail shaft pulley

I purchased a used heli from a friend's friend and the belt had a couple of teeth missing, but it was working fine. I replaced it as preventive maintenance, but in idle up it ran off the pulley on the tail shaft and head speed dropped like a rock. I got it down ok and put the belt back in place, but found nothing worn or out of adjustment. On the next flight the belt ran off the pulley again in idle up. This time the belt broke. Luckily, it was lonely a few feet off the ground and there was no damage other than the belt.

I noticed that the idler roller on the tail case was offset to the opposite side as the drawing in the manual showed. Would this be the cause of the belt running off the pulley or is it likely something else. I had a two different heli pilots that I consider experts look at my set up and they didn't see anything obviously wrong. Motor is 430XL w/13T pinion.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I'm getting a little paranoid it fly this thing.

You can just remove that idler pulley. The tail doesn't need it and it usually only causes problems.

I've never had an issue with the belt since running one of these:

Be sure the alignment of your tail drive gear is perfectly squared up, too.

Check out the ornage belts here, too:

Thanks! I'll try removing the roller and see if the problem goes away with a few cautious flights. Someone else had mentioned that the roller wasn't necesary, but I didn't know how knowledgeable he was.
