I wonder if it has to do with atmospheric pressure (inHg). Does it happen even when the heli is carried at the same height as the idle position was establish?

Instead of carrying the heli have you tried testing by just lifting or lowering heli above the spot you set the idle to.

Unless these people are several hundred feet tall , I doubt that is the cause .

Maybe, if you carry it with throttle cut on, the % on throttle cut is not the same as when it is off.
