Hi everyone, this is my first post, really hope you can help.i recently bought a Hummingbird here in England and i must say that after having a Piccolo some time ago i am very happy with the BIRD,a better model i feel.

After spending quite some time reading previous posts on Hummingbird set ups,i would appriciate it if someone could set me straight on a few issues?

Should i change main blades for Hornet carbon ones?

with the 280 bb motor what pinion gear should i use? With standard blades and carbon blades>?

Do i need to upgrade tail motor,if not what gear do i run on stock motor to match higher performance off the 280bb,but if i do have to upgrade the tail motor what gear do i run on this?

Hope some one can help, you guys in the states seem more clued up and on the ball when it comes to Humingbird mods!!

Thanks for your time,Regards Benz19

HummingBird

I fly mine stock out of the box with no upgrades, I have had flights up to 7 minutes on all stock hardware, if you want to spend more money on upgrades you can but all I have ever ordered was a couple of Batterys and some more main blades

Just to let you know I have ordered a set of CF Blades from Helihobby they are now selling CF Main and Tail rotor blades for the Humming bird. Hope this will help you out. That way there should be no modification needed for the blades. Take care and have fun.

HummingBird Blades

The ones you get in the kit are not CF they are the stock High Impact Plastic..

they work well CF is a great upgrade.. but not needed to have fun with the HummingBird.

Q:Should i change main blades for Hornet carbon ones?
A: If you can justify the cost. I went through several sets of blades in the first few weeks playing with the Hummer. I finally went for a set of CF hornet blades (helihobby no offers a set made for the HB) and found that the heli was more stable in hover, perhaps a bit more responsive, pitched up less in forward flight and the blades can take a heck of a beating which allows me to not be so afraid of forward flight. It's really up to you, but if yo uhave the funds, I suggest to go for it.

Q:with the 280 bb motor what pinion gear should i use?
A: I misreported in other posts that an 8 tooth worked well, well it was a 9 tooth with 7 cells and stock blades. With the hornet blades I used the stock 10 tooth pinion and either 7 cells or 2 li-poly cells (preferred)

Q: With standard blades and carbon blades>?
A: See above....

Q: Do i need to upgrade tail motor,
A: Mine lasted a long time but I replaced it with wattage B2 carbon motors which are a drop in and the one has lasted me many hours.

Q: if not what gear do i run on stock motor to match higher performance off the 280bb,
A:The 9 tooth with stock blades, the 10 with CF hornet blades.

Q: but if i do have to upgrade the tail motor what gear do i run on this?
A: I would consider a direct drive tail motor with a 3x2 GWS prop if upgrading. But you gain a lot of weight on the tail.....

Hoep this helps!
