Main Discussion > Warped Stratus Canopy

I have a Miniature Aircraft Stratus. I usually use a beautiful Arizona Heli Canopy that fits the airframe like a glove.

I was thinking of trying the original fiberglass canopy that came with the helicopter and so I made the correct holes/access points (i.e. for the muffler and electronics switch) as well as for the canopy grommets. The holes I made are exactly where the holes are in the very well done Arizona canopy and they are done precisely as the instructions dictate.

Problem is: The original canopy that came with my stratus seems to be warped in from one side (the right side) so it touches the main gear when I install it. I think this was a problem from the packaging that it came in.

Question is: Is there a way for me to unwarp this unused fiberglass canopy. I just need a few mm of clearance for the main gear on the right side and it would be fine. Does heat and slight pressure do the trick?

Any help appreciated.

heat will work but dont rush it, too much heat will damage it.make a jig from wood to stretch and heat slowly.

Thanks for the info.

Should I use a heat gun as I use for my heat shrink tubing to provide the heat?

Thanks again.

I used a heat gun for stripping paint on mine. Do be caredul not to apply too much heat. The canopy has to be held in shape till it cools. I would recommend mounting the canopy on the heli to free up your hands first.

use the heat gun but stay back about 8". feel with hand to find best temp. and you do need to keep it from moving during cooling.

Mine is warped on my Pectra G also. I have herd most of them are warped on the right side. I used a heat gun and was able to get it better but not perfect.

One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

I used a blow dryer on it (the heat gun has too concentrated a heat spray to deliver the heat for this in my opinion) and I protected my hands with insulated gloves and I was able to remold the side of the canopy so that now, my main gear has ample clearance.

Thanks for the help.

Chuck Norris wouldn't use gloves.
