Ok, forgot to mention this.. but I got a Maxi-Joker from Joe Howard this past week..
Here is the simple story.. This is a great kit! it has MANY new features.. I will list a few

- INSTRUCTIONS!
- In English
- All the Parts included!
- Customer Support!
- It works!

With that said.. I put this thing together in about 3 afternoons of working on it late after work.. everything was well documented, and when I had a STUPID question, Joe was there early, and late into the night to save me..

It test flew for the very first time at Sanford.. no pressure right.. I love this thing! The Sound is awsome, the thing is rock solid. That is all I can say!

I will post some pics and video soon.. but wanted to share..

Hey Dave,

Well welcome to the club!

You're lucky. I got my Joker directly from Gerd and at the time time it was missing a LOT of parts. Nothing serious except for the motor pinion gear. So I was grounded for a while until I could I get it. On the other hand I got it all -- motor, ESC, kit & blades for $1250 including shipping! So, I can't complain. The dollar has fallen a lot since then I think...

My experience was that the original instructions were ok. I had no problems building it.

Ever seen a kit with stock parts like it?

Like you, first time I flew it, it lifted off smooth as glass.

Now you're going to have to find a fuse for it!

If you're going to Circumgyration, I'll have my Joker-500D there....

Thanks! I am in the search for a good fuse to wrap around this baby! it is screaming for a AH-1W Cobra fuse..

Glass.. that is an understatement.. I basically through this thing together at the last minute before the scale funfly at Sanford this past weekend. I mean, just stuffed electronics into place, ect.. and the dang thing was SO smooth.. I hovered the thing for the 2nd time in front of the whole crowd at Sanford as a demo, and was having so much fun, I spun around and flew it off into forward flight and several nice circuits before I knew what I was doing..

Parts - wow, this thing is so nice.

When thinking about the fuse keep in mind room for batteries and access to pulling them in and out.

That's one thing I like about putting it in the Century 500D, Lots of room inside so I could use some honkin big packs (CP3600's) and access them easy enough through a window. I basically just velcro the packs to the floor on each side of where the mechs are mounted. A Cobra is going to be much less forgiving I think.

Is the Maxi-Joker the one with the raised tail rotor?

I know what you mean on the batteries... The Maxi has the 45 degree tail, very cool design.. and it has the 1800mm rotor span.. she is big..

dmcgirt,

I just orderd my Maxi from Joe yesterday. I am glad to hear good feed back from guys that have it and the Joker. I am hoping it will be here by nexed monday or tue.

If all goes well with the Maxi I will get a Joker also, I like the idea of getting it in a fuse.

edg, did you get the D or E version of the Centruy 500 ? do you have any pics ?

Where are you guys getting your batt packs from ?

Do the li - poly batt need a charger just for them ? I have an Astro flight 112D and a FMA 250 super Nova now.

Any hints or sugjestions for building the Maxi ?

Regards
Jeff

It's the D. Some pics are online here:

It was pretty easy to do. I'd say it was about 10-20 hours of work. The main thing is that you need to raise the mechs off of the provided floorwork by about 1". I found 1" alum spacers worked quite nicely for this. You also need to ditch the CF tail pushrod in favor of a more flexible system.

I plan on getting LiPo's eventually. I basically buy individual cells and then use solderless power tubes to make the packs. I also use larger, CP3600 cells which I bought in 10 cell packs from robotic power solutions. You won't really be able to fit those into a pod & boom, but the fuse has plenty of room. They add up about an extra pound over CP2400's but increase flight time by about 1.5 mins.

edg,
the heli looks great ! what did you do about the more flexable TR pushrod ? I will check into getting batt cells individualy and make my own packs in the future, seems could save a few bucks that way.

Where did you get the cockpit seats and concle ? are they Vario or something else ?

Thanks
Jeff
