Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Airplane fuel in OS .61

Hey guys and gals,

I bought three gallons of Coolpower %15 Heli fuel from the LHS recently. I noticed today that one of the three bottles of fuel is not marked heli %15 like the other two. I am assuming this bottle is just normal airplane fuel instead. I ran about 1 tank of this through my OS .61 before I realized the mistake. Looking back now I remember having to mess with the needles a little on this tank and did not get a clue of the wrong fuel problem until I went to refuel. This is a relatively new engine with a small amount of flight time on it.

Question: anything I should look for and did I ruin anything? Engine seems fine and since it was only one tank on pretty light maneuvers - I am not too worried. Just wanted to check with others to get their opinions.

Thanks.

Jeff,

By running Airplane fuel through that heli motor you have ruined it beyond repair. Federal laws require you to dispose of it properly if it has ingested any airplane related items like fuel, glowplugs, or after run oil. You must send the motor to me and I will dispose of it in a way determined to have no enviromental impact.....

Actually you shouldn't have hurt the motor at all. Cool Power 15% heli mix and airplane fuel are exactly the same with the exception of the heli label on the heli mix jug. Have fun flying.

I just bought a gallon of coolpower 15% fuel and it didn't say heli on the tag and the guy at shop said it was for heli. I asked him because they had coolpower 30% and it said heli on it. I just started using it today.

The Rotory forum has just recently been beating this issue to a pulp; the horse is dead and buried. CP 15% airplane and CP 15% heli are the same fuels with a sticker on the bottle to appease sometimes neurotic heli pilots who flat out refuse to buy any fuel that doesn't say "heli" on it. Morgan found that if the stickers weren't there, it wouldn't sell for heli applications. Same oil, same percentage, etc, etc. Variances in price that you may or may not see between the two are based on LHS pricing decisions or differences in wholesale cost from the distributor. I believe the actual suggested retail price is the same for the two.

Bottom line: burn it without concern.

Whew....

Well thanks guys - that helps to relieve a lot of concern. It didn't appear to hurt anything but just thought it best to check with you guys.

And Scotty740 I appreciate the offer to take care of my "ruined" engine, but I will dispose of it myself - by running lots of fuel through it and keeping that bird in the air

Thanks guys... appreciate the info.

heli fuel

Hi guys,
I thought CP15 airplane was GREEN? The CP15 heli is PINK, as is the Omega (castor blend). So maybe he got some Omega 15%? Just a thought.......

cp15 IS green and yes, there is no diff between 15A and 15H fuel.

If your fuel is pink, your running Omega castor/synth fuel.

Now I know why the "H" or "Heli" on all of the bottles is hand written. At least they have been in all of the hobby shops that I have been to. Learn somthing new every day

There is no difference in the MSRP or wholesale price between the CP15 heli or CP15 airplane. It costs the same, it should sell for the sam. If your LHS has it priced differently, politely ask them why they are gouging you. This hobby is expensive enough without your LHS trying to take advantage of a 'special' sticker.
