Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 90 Torque Tube -its not pinned!

I bought an assembled but never flown Raptor 60. First of all, how do I recognize a version 1 from a version 2? Secondly, the torque tube driveshaft doesnt have any provision to pin the ends into the tube? That is, it's not cross drilled. Do I need to do something about this?

Has anyone else seen this? A torque tube that has no provision for the little bolt and nut to hold the ends in the tube. Are these press fit ends? What is their track record?

I never had one come loose, but, I used to drill the ends & put a small allen screw & nyloc nut on them.. just to be sure. If I remember correctly, the V1 had red Torque tube drive gears (Small gears, not the main one), the V2 is White.

My very first Raptor 60 had no pins and the bad gears. We use to drill the shaft and install 2mm screws. Also replace all the tail drive gears (4 gears) with the latest Raptor 90 gears to be on the safe side.

Well, judging that this heli has never flown but is equipped with a JR NEJ-900 gyro, an OS 61LX engine and the longest muffler I've ever seen on a 60, I would say this is an early Raptor 60 as well. What is this about bad gears? How can I tell a version 1 Raptor 60 from a version 2?

The V1 was only out for a short time before the kits were upgraded to V2.. Other than the main tail drive gear which is red(Thats attached to the main gear) all the other tail shaft gearing & tail gearbox gears should be white if its V2. The V1 had the red tail gears that were faulty.. broke and stripped easily.. V2 was all good.

Those old gears would fail in flight. Replace those gears and pin the tail shaft and you save yourself the cost of a crash rebuild.

I'll check the gears this evening. Were these red gears at both ends of the tail?

Yes, both ends. It's easy enough to split the rear case to check..
